993 cooling fan bearing availability
Hi,
I have an irisblue 993 manual with a noisy fan bearing.
Does any one know where a fan bearing can be purchased from?
I believe 964's to be the same bearing.
Porsche Aust sell the bearing and its housing for $300au.
The number on the bearing is 999.052.799.00 and its dimensions are:
32mm OD, 17mm ID, 14mm wide.
I have run these numbers and dimensions via many bearing companies companies & Bosch with no luck.
Ive been told the '999' pre digits means its a multi used bearing and not specific to the fan... does anyone know if that is correct?
Hope someone can help,
irisblue
Ps my alternater also had noisy bearings, worn brushes & slip rings..
I was able to rebuild that myself for a cost of $50 parts total as the bearings, brushes & slip rings are the same for most Bosch alternaters and available at any bearing outlet & auto electrician.

I recently converted to the single belt RS hub, which is an option you may consider: the 'RS' sells for far less than your replacement bearing/hub, and allows the belt tension alarm roller to be removed, run on one belt, etc.
Similarly here, a regulator & brush set was $20, so a good time to refresh the alternator.
The bearing from the OEM hub is by INA of Germany, and is marked LD 17/32 2RSR AH04 G0925 ACM .... the 'G0925' is the only thing that resembles a part number: I had considered fitting a new bearing to the old hub if one could be found; however, I have decided to convert this hub to an RS hub by turning an insert to replace all the other bits.
If you take the combined length of the spacer+14mm height of the bearing+two front spacers+two Alt pulley halves+5 tension spacers = length of insert .... and the required diameters are obvious.
This is option #2 if you are so motivated

I suggested stacking two 17 x 32 x 7 mm bearings. I'll have to check with the tribology lab to see if that is valid way around it.
The search continues.

Three Wheelin'
Last year I tried to source one of these and hit a dead end (as others have). I tried a couple local bearing specialty shops and eventually inquired with the Canadian distributor for INA, Schaffler. I was told the bearing was only available through auto parts dealers, not through Schaffler or generic bearing dealers.

I am all for saving $, but there comes a point where searching the Internet for a specific bearing, calling people etc, is simply not worth the time. The $60 bucks you save in the end is easily eaten up by the time you spent trying to save it.

I have a few of them around from converting my cars. If you want one I will give it to you.It was in the car for less than two years. PM me with your address and I will mail it out to you for free.

Funny how time is more valuable to some, rather than others
I suppose it is relative
If you have time, the value of money is reduced
For most, it is not a matter of TV vs. Internet
Often it is everything else vs. Life
For example, this thread.
Almost 5 years old. Revived for some noble reason, I'm sure

Mark, it isn't about money, its about unnecessary waste.
And since Andreas PMed me a few months ago on this matter, he has his own reasons as well.
I'm retiring early.
Its about information exchange...what the internet was originally intended for.

Andreas and I have been in recent discussions re this bearing. I would guess that at 7.5 mm tall, yet 14 mm wide, that this might be a dual row if it is a ball bearing....or a roller? I have an old one that I might be able to take apart.

You and Al Gore.... interwebz experts
Still surprised one would spend so much time on such a low failure item. The housing for the bearing? Recycle it, no waste.
There are bigger fish to fry, IMO but to each their own.
This place is GREAT because people invest their time in coming up with good stuff we can all benefit from. Like the rack brace that Porsche seems to be out of... indefinitely. Recently fabricated by a RLer and offered to other RLers. Very cool community.
Anyhow, enjoy your retirement!
Oh, and here's a preemptive

Exactly, Mark and searching for info is fun, especially during the winter months. I run into all sorts of neat stuff on the web.
Exactly...again.
BTW, that fan bearing is a dual row ball bearing as I expected, and sure enough, it was dry. A local 993er dropped it off for me to tinker with.
