Default Side mirrors not mounted symmetrically and other fun facts

I've driven, washed, and otherwise fussed over my car for over a year and never noticed this until now: driver and passenger side mirrors are mounted on different places on their respective doors. In retrospect, it makes total sense to ensure clear lines of sight, but I was amazed to stumble upon this nonetheless.

Any other quirky oddities lurking on our cars that you folks have found? I'm just curious more than anything else.

Why "quirky??? Many other cars have done the same thing for many years, some even have different size mirrors on each side, Mercedes-Benz for one.

Maybe "quirky" is a poor choice of words. "Unexpected," perhaps , is better.

How about that the steering wheel is not centered in front of the drivers seat.

The mirrors are mounted on different parts of the doors because the driver's seat isn't mounted in the center of the car.

The rear wheels are not centered in their wheel wells. Drives me nuts.

Ed, that's funny, I just noticed the same thing a few weeks ago. I've had the car over a year.

Steering wheel not aligned with seat - now THAT's quirky! (I knew about that going in, and it doesn't seem to bother me.)

Oh, you want quirky? How about this: the engine is in the back!

The mirrors were mounted that way on the 3.2 80's cars as well, probably the SC's too.

The key's on the wrong side, and the old guy wears his glasses upside-down.

Why is the seat power operated and manually adjusted?

DAMNT!! You are right! And all this time I just though the trunk on mine was rediculously tiny and really tough to keep clean (and dry). So... what's up front, the gas tank!?!?!?
