Is that the same thing as a cheap Lexus?

We were comparing 993 v.s. 996/997 remember? And no one said anything about driving...the point was that the experience of being in a 993 v.s. being in a 996/997 is completely different.

Actually, it could be any of the air cooled variants.

I feel the 996/997 are better cars for daily use, like Robin states. Robin has one of each.

Agreed, different experience: either moving or standing still. (Does closing the doors count??)

Say what? So you wouldn't know a 996/7 if all you had to compare it to was a 993? Oh come on now.

Hello...reading comprehension 101. I said a 996/997 is so different from a 993 than I could tell the difference blindfolded.

The 996 resale value will only improve if buyers ARE blindfolded. I have owned Porsches for many years and even I have trouble telling a 996 from a Boxster when meeting one on the highway. Those droopy headlights still look as gross today as they did when introduced 8 years ago. You can extol the technological virtues of the 996 if you like, but in our society looks mean everything and why should someone settle for Rosie 996 O'Donnell when you can have Natalie 993 Gulbis?

Writing comprehension, you said you couldn't tell a 996/7 from any other car. And I said you couldn't tell a 993 from any previous 911, and then you come back with a "its a 993 vs 996/7" topic. I think you read this post blind folded. But whatever.

Sorry, that is not what I said at all. Here is the exact quote...

"If you were blindfolded and put in a 993, you would know it was a 993. If you were blindfolded and put in a 997, it might be more difficult to know what car you were in."

I never said I "couldn't tell a 996/7 from any other car"....merely that it would be more difficult to differentiate a 996/997 from another car than it would be to differentiate a 993.

Reading Comprehension.

Adrian,
Its probably that the looks of a 993 seem to be more popular with enthusiasts and there were fewer 993s produced. 996 out of the box is a higher performance vehicle and less expensive to maintain (according to Porsche mechanics I've spoken with). I had the budget to purchase a nice 993 C2 or a newer 996 C2. For me the choice was very simple. I prefer the lines and the way the 993 feels behind the wheel while driving it. The car was also going to be for weekend only use. I probably would buy a BMW M3 for a DD before I would buy a 996 for the same purpose. I think the M3 looks better than the 996 and is far more functional in terms of carrying capacity and all the creature comforts. To me the 996 is rather bland. The 996 GT3 on the other hand was anything but bland, however, it comes with much taller pricetag. Good luck with whichever car you eventually buy. I'm sure a 996 would still be fun to own but you know what people on a 993 board will tell you to buy.
