Indeed it could be a great find. Even if it's a conversion, it seems well done. If the PPI checks out, I'd be all over it. You can always change the chrome wheels.
Ask the dealer to send you a picture of the options sticker under the hood. If is a factory option as he says it is, it would be in there.
Those chrome wheels stink! Not a big fan. I am going to call Porsche, if you give them the VIN, they will tell you the options on the car, I think that might be wise.
I do know that Beverly Hills Porsche did these as a conversion at the end of the model year. I believe the cars were coupes and they converted them to Cabs. I am not completely clear, but I have seen three come up for sale in the past 9 years. Arena Red, Blue tip and this one.
I spoke with Porsche, the car originally came into the dealership as a cab, then was converted to a widebody, at the dealership. It had a variety of options but mainlt the car was ordered special for to be made into a widebody cab, because one of the options was X70, metal Carrera S door sills.
As far as the Carrera S, I know the body is a widebody, but isn't the suspension/brakes etc., the same as a regular non S car?

Pretty neat stuff.
Very cool.
Yes, the suspension/brakes/etc of the C2S and the C2 are exactly the same. The only difference being the wider body on the rear, side skirts, rear spoiler grill and turbo front bumper. Also, it has 11 inch rear wheels vs the 10 inch wheels of the C2. The C4S had the same "big red" brakes as the Turbo.

If it is one of the 7 or 8 converted by BH Porsche, it's well documented and I believe quite valuable due to its rarity. No matter which way you slice it, wether approaching it as a 98 2S car with 12k mi or a cab with 12k mi, that car is a bargain as it is. The rarity makes it valuable well beyond the purchase price. Good luck with the purchase.
BTW, brakes and suspension on a 2S are the same as on a regular coupe/cab. It's the 4S that has the big reds and the sport M030 suspension.
and it comes with a 996 drivers manual............!!
What's up with that? Dealership conversion would probably explain
why the tach is missing the "S" designation. This is a really cool find, I love
these obscure rare versions. Hope the PPI goes well and enjoy!
"This 911 has been completely detailed inside and out and will come with a full tank of gas."
Here in California, that's actually a reasonable bonus.
Looks like a very nice car with an interesting history. Probably will have some collector value in the future since the conversion was done by a Porsche dealer, was planned when the vehicle was ordered, and was one part of a small run. Gives it some credibility. That would have been a difficult conversion with removal of old fenders, cutting, replacement, welding/filling, painting, etc... No small feat. Wonder what it sold for new?
If you want a price comp. a local one owner sliver/ blk '98 cab with 27,000 miles with average options but in mint condtion sold here in Richmond for $48,750 two weeks ago......I thought the price was a tad high and several old Porsche guys told the owner that $45,000 was a good day's work; but what the hell did we did we know.......he advertised here and Wash. D C and for $49,000.....the first person to see it in person buys at $48,750.00......
Have not talked to you in ages ...... were you at the TPC last weekend?
