I ask, cos I have the price-list from RUF of all their 997-based cars, and had some time to spare (ok, I was bored on a sunday).
Specced a 997 Turbo and an R Kompressor (RUF Vin) to identical specs, and was surprised that whereas the Turbo was £108K, the RUF was £111K (after a frankly extortionate €15K for right-hand-drive). Both hideously expensive by any means, but very different and, by price, directly comparable alternatives...
So, the way I see it, the RUF has the exclusivity and the Supercharger power-delivery, whereas the Turbo has the pure numbers and edge on power...
I would spring for the turbo. The looks can be fixed, especially with the addition of RUF parts. I understand that the R Kompressor is saddled with the same engine as the NA 996 and 997. A great motor in its own right, but not comparable to what the 997TT and 911-based GT cars recieve, that in itself would be enough to sway me toward the turbo.
I haven't been able to experience the R-Kompressor's power delivery, but with the VTG turbos and all the other great technologies (Variocam+, etc.) that the 997TT comes with, lag in the traditional sense is nearly non-existent.
The only way an R-Kompressor makes sense IMHO is if you already own a 997 and want to do the conversion.
Either way, you can't go wrong, and they're both fantastic cars.
