Why didn't this car sell??
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...0047082&rd=1,1
Forgive me for Ebaying you guys to death but as I'm looking for a second car I'm spending some time there.
I'm curious as to why this car didn't sell- it sounds pretty good; Cali. car, miles aren't too high (or too low) and has sunroof delete. With the insane (IMO) asking prices 2S's I see this car seems very reasonable. What gives- anyone know this car?

Ritter,
The seller could have done a more thorough job of describing thhe actual condition of the car. While it is an "S" and looks very nice in the photos, the repaint comments probably cause a few bidders to shy away. Had he described the reasons for the repainted areas and maybe shown a few before & after pics, he may have sold the car.
Also, the missing plastic fasteners above the center reflector seem odd to me. Why not buy and install the correct $0.20 pieces before putting the car on the market?

I'm sure it will sell shortly. The options are pretty cool. The price seems in line--there were six bidders and most were close to the right neighborhood.

I'll bet that a good number of typical buyers were dissuaded by the lack of sunroof, too. Rennlisters are a hardcore breed, and the pool of buyers looking for a sunroof delete car for a pure track car are probably not going to want to spend this much money on a steed.
When I bought my car five years ago, despite knowing that I wanted to do two or three DE's a year ( ), I still wanted a sunroof in my car, for I thought my car would spend most of its life on the road.
Hindsight...yes it is 20/20...

At 70K miles, anyone who knows about SAI/top end issues will also proceed with caution. I seem to recall a very similar car for sale recently by a dealer in Nor-Cal. If it's the same one, maybe this seller is flipping it after receiving a CEL? Too bad there aren't code scan results as part of the listing!
Also, this seller sold another car to Victory. Further evidence of Mr. Neal's massive Ebay Buying Boiler Room. Cars gotta come from somewhere. They can't all come from underwater in New Orleans
So C2S was really only a $2,475 option package? If that's the case, MY, how things have changed!

While the price seems fair for this car, lets face it, buyers for these cars are not a dime a dozen.. I think it can take weeks or months for the right buyer for any given car. when you are talking 40K and up for the nicer ones. After all, these cars are going on 10 to 13 years old. That is still a lot of money for a car of this vintage, regardless of brand. I just recently paid 34K for an 87 turbo. When I really stop to think about paying that much for a 20 year old car, I think I am nuts. But obviously I was the right buyer for that particular car. It could have easliy sat on the market for weeks and months waiting for me or a similar buyer to come along..
If I owned the white S model on ebay. I would up the price a couple of thousand and then advertise it and not worry about trying to sell it quickly.
If I were shopping for a 993, I would buy that car for that price, not worry about the miles and enjoy driving it and logging many more miles on it. It is not every day that an S model comes on the market for less than 40K.

Thanks for the comments.
I wish it was closer- love to go have a look. Even with a few warts (assuming thats all there is- hell, my cars bi-polar afterall) thats pretty reasonable these days for 2S and could make a great ocassional street/ track car.
Do Victory buy cars like this and go to town on the cosmetics then resell +$10k?

I saw this car today, on "accident". I stopped by Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City to check out some of the nice 997 models today, and it was parked in the rear lot--where cars being serviced wait. I did not get a chance to speak to the service guys, but I'm sure if someone was persistant or has an inside informant, you could squeeze some info out of them (maybe?).
Seems like a good price, if the PPI works out. Maybe Carlsen is performing the SAI flush? They are one of the few Bay Area Porsche dealers that have a decent reputation for service (or so I hear, not like I would take my 993 there).
For many buyers, the lack of the sunroof is a negative, at least in CA.

Could be psychology. Bidders could just be bitter that the person who put it up for auction won't give it up for less than his "buy it now" price, despite it being a reasonable deal.

Can someone explain why he has crossed out the color reference on the original invoice? It makes no sense unless the whole car was repainted a different color than stock.
