Default Metric bolt thread vs. SAE? thread HELP (DAS roll bar)

Am in the process of installing DAS Sport roll bar and some Brey Krause harness mounting hardware.

I just pull off the seat belt mechanisms in the rear for the horizontal bar mounted in the back seat. I noticed that the bolt I removed has the finer metric thread and the replacement bolt from DAS sport is longer but has a coarser thread pattern. This bolt is suppose to be used as a replacement to reattach the seat belt mechanism with the bar. I also noticed that the replacement bolt from BK for the outside harness mount in the stock seat belt location is the same coarser thread than the stock bolt.

QUESTION? Can you use the replacement bolts? Is it expected that they tap their own thread? I am confused because this stuff is made for 964/993 Porsches.

what am I missing in this equation?

Metric bolts come in fine & coarse thread pitch versions too .... and the two do not intermingle eg. M12x1.5 ( fine) and M12x1.75 (coarse). SAE is in threads/inch .... and metric is of course, the opposite .... mm of penetration/turn.

The same thread pitch must be returned to the hole that it was tapped/threaded for .... if you cannot start it by hand, stop before the wrenches appear

The picture shows the difference. The pair on the left are for the belt attachment point (on the floor behind the drivers seat). the bolt on the left is what is supplied by BK as a replacement for the stock bolt on the right.

The pair on the right is for the belt winder mechanism mounting point for the DAS Sport base bar. The one on the left is what is supplied by DAS sport to replace the stock bolt on the right.

Has anyone else seen this?

Those are cetainly the wrong thread pitch. Most seat belt fasteners, in all cars, use a 7/16-20 thread.

Take your original bolts in to a bolt supply place and get them to find some longer ones for the rollbar application. Make sure that they are at least grade 8.8 (high tensile)

Good luck
