I always buy OEM Porsche gaskets and always replace the bolts, and when needed I have bought the OEM lower valve covers. We have never had an issue with them leaking when using all OEM parts.

Thx. It seems the lower VC is sort of a toss up between time to remove muffler and extra time for the couple hard to reach bolts. Is the muffler a must remove for the upper VC? Also, someone posted a DIY (which I can't find) for getting to the upper VC from the top of the engine.

Is it easier to get to the upper VC from top or bottom, and what has to be removed vs. what just makes it a little easier?

Yes!

Both, remove everthing blower oriented on the ds for access and you'll need to drill a hole in the motor pan (accessed through the wheel well) to get the Upper VC front most bolt (bottom)

Keep in mind that a bad RMS leak will spread oil everywhere and lead to real confusion about where it came from. The oil fans out under the engine at speed, coating it from the front to back and when the car stops, if it is bad enough, gravity does the rest. I only mention this because I have seen people change out their gaskets correctly several times and they still get oil everywhere because of the RMS failure. The two 90 tubes mentioned above can also be culprits.
