Pomona Swap Meet So. Cal event report
The Pomona, CA "Porsche Volkswagen Corvette Pre-1973 Classic Car Show and Swap Meet" is a So. Cal tradition that might go back 30(?) years or more. I've lived in LA for 10 years but only went for the first time yesterday. Considering the word "Porsche" was in the title, I figured it would be a great place for me to score deals on a FPB, stone guards, oil filters, updated pulley and key blanks. Boy was I "rong."
If you've got a '60s Impala, it's pretty awesome. Also tons and tons of aircooled VW parts. As far as Porsche goes, there were a few cars (below) but only thing somewhat interesting for parts was a bunch of random 997 wheels, some chrome, some not; maybe matched sets, maybe not. That TT looks like the same Fly Yellow one that they had at Truspeed recently.
The VW engine mounted on the truck bed was interesting. It was actually running! No radiator makes things like that pretty easy to do, I guess. The other thing to take note of is the time of day this thing goes down. Doors open at 5:00 a.m. I rolled in around 6:30 and was blown away by the copious amounts of beer being downed at that hour- hard core! I love beer, too, but I needed coffee a lot more right then. But that does explain the ubiquitous "beer lady" booths. The gals are in full makeup at 5:00 a.m. pushing overpriced beer. I guess now we know what they do with all of the old strippers. I'm pretty sure that I'd buy the same amount of beer from a frumpy person, but maybe I'm not the target demo?
But if you're a Chevy and/or low-rider guy, you'd probably get a lot more out of the $8 parking and $8 admission than I did. I don't know what that tubular thing is on the passenger window of that truck. That "window sticker" below was on a slightly above-average Impala convertible. Muscle car prices make 993s look like bargains! That C10 pickup bed had a pop-out LCD screen, but those little couches were too small for humans to actually sit in. Finally, any of you Harley guys might recognize the last photo. It's a H-D enduro bike built in Italy by Aermacchi. Same as the Kelly Leaks "Bad News Bears" bike, IIRC (whoa! dating myself...)

That tubular thing is a evaporative (swamp) cooler, used for crossing the desert in the days before air conditioning. Fill it with water, and the air from the moving car will be cooled and go in thru the slit in the side window. I understand they used to rent them as you reached the desert on the way to Lost Wages. You gave it back when you returned.
I believe a driver and a Porsche or Hot Rod car can get in and park inside for $15, which is a lot easier. I quit going long ago as there was very little Porsche stuff any more.
Your commentary is good to warn new folks. Good pix also.

If you drive a p-car or pre 70 something you get to drive into the event and park for under $20...no matter how many people you stuff in the car. But as the post says, if you are looking for p-car parts this is now a total waste. Still a lot of fun to go and look at all the cars....every food group is represented...

Does that gold colored 993 turbo have a candy color? Is it a real 993? Also, that 993 cab with the turbo tail and basket handle, any more photos?
I want to see the beer selling girl with her eyes open too. That, and also if you get her to take photos for the popular OT thread about hitting something.

The Turbo was me having fun with Photoshop. I think the real color is paint-to-match Ferrari Fly Yellow. I'm pretty sure it's real. That's it for the beer girls. It's hard to be discrete. As far as the cab goes, your wish is my command...

When I was into restoring muscle cars, that was the place to go. For speed parts, the monthly Vetrans Stadium High Perf Parts Exchange was the place to go for those types of parts.
I still enjoy going to Pomona when time permits even though the P-car content is small. Its a nice walk early in the morning

It's truly a "flea market" type event. It all depends on what "vendors" show up. So you never know what you'll find. Like the time the guy there was selling vintage Porsche racing posters......for $15- $20 each.
