Default My second Autocross Update...with new pic added

I went to the Citrus Region Autocross today. This was my second autocross.
It was very interesting as the "designer" created decreasing radius chicanes at one point, along with some really tight tuns. To make a long story short, I was the only 993 there and I improved my time more than 7 seconds from my 1st run to my eighth and last run.
I then asked an instructor to run my car with me in it. He had never driven a 993. He drives miatas and a corvette.
The humbling thing was that in his one and only run, he bettered my best time by almost 1 second.
I wish I had done that first actually to see how he did it and how he drove it. Next time, I will do that.
Thanks for letting me share
Ron

Thanks for sharing Ron. I've so far done one and only one AutoX. Luckily I got to go w/ my instructor in his car right after my run. It was eye opening and yes, humbling.

What, if anything, did he have to say about the 993 experience?

I've got my first autox experience tomorrow. I'm expecting to be humbled first time out too. Looking forward to some fun though and learning a little more about the car. What sort of tire pressures were you running today?

it was hot. I am running P-Zero on 18" with 285 in rear and 225 in front. Front was 34 and rear was 37. It seemed to be the righ balance. I have learned that if you want more roll out of your tires, let the air out.
GOOD LUCK and have fun. It will be a blast and you will have fun. Watch the "good" drivers like a hawk and try to imitate them
Good luck
Ron

What, if anything, did he have to say about the 993 experience?

He was surprised by the clutch. That is what he honed on. I do not have the right pedal set up, so he could not heel/toe. Other wise, he flew around the course ( I thought) and with a few runs, would have come real close to his best time in his Miata. His best time in my car (once) was only 3 seconds off his miata time (about 175 horses with a sweet autocross set up).

Thanks Ron. It is only supposed to be 55 here tomorrow so not sure were I'll end up on pressure. Probably start a little higher and back them down if I need to. My plan is to take it easy the first run an do my best to stay on course. I will definitely keep an eye on the experienced guys to soak in as much as possible. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Ron,

Where was this at? I'm about an hour from you I think so let me know about the next one! There is one in Deland (cfr region) coming up next weekend I think. I usually run out there (in the wrx, the 911 hasn't been out there yet) and my old man and his 997 usually head out too. Might come check it out. Its not the greatest course as its set up on a runway but its usually a fast run.

I must have missed the email. i was planning to go to this one to try the Turbo this time. I assume it was at the Lake County police training course as usual? They set up some interesting courses sometimes. Lots of fun and runs! Where is the autocross in Deland?

Its right off of 92/Int'l Speedway Blvd. Its actually at the airport on an unused runway that now has become the deland R/C club but they do an autoX every month there. The road to get there is a bit rough (dirt and bump), and like I said the course leaves a bit to be desired but its something to do on a sunday!

If you're coming from I4, get off at new smyrna exit (st rd 44) and head west to kepler road. Make a right onto kepler and then a left on 92. You'll see marsh road on the right. Take Marsh road to stearling sports complex(left-hand side of the road) and find the dirt road that leads to the runway. Usually a lot of traffic on autoX days once you get close and there are some SCCA signs too.

shoot me a PM if you plan to head out, I think I'll be going this time for one last run in the WRX before I get the 993 back

there is another autocross at the lake county location next week. You might want to check the martin sport car club web site for more info. It is not a porsche event. lots of other things will be there as well.
Let me know which ones you attend. I may go.

I use to do them all the time years ago when the Martin SCC had them at the Sandlake Road Martin plant. Once a year in November they had a high speed one using the perimeter road for about 1/4 mile at the end around the sweeping back curve. That was a blast.
