Airbag Law
Guys I am wanting to replace my steering wheel with the momo monte carlo. I have heard that in virginia if you remove the airbag wheel the car will be denied during its annual inspection. Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Also I need the wheel to be slightly farther back to accomodate my long legs. Does this wheel curve back more than the original when installed? Or have any of you used a spacer to accomplish this? Thanks.

If you find you can use the wheel, I have one I may be looking to sell. It has a quick disconnect which brings the wheel out quite a bit. PM me for details

The Monte Carlo is a flat wheel but Chris' quick release will, as he says, bring it closer to you. The Momo Mod .07 aka Cup wheel is more heavily dished towards the driver.
WRT airbags, go to www.dorkiphus.com and ask the guys over there. Many of them are from Virginia and will know what is legal.

I am using a 1-1/4" spacer with my Momo Corsa wheel. Works as advertised and keeps the wheel close enough that I can still operate the stalks with my hands on the wheel.
Regarding insurance, definitely speak with your insurance company. I approached my mine (USAA) before buying a 993 and explained that some of the cars I was looking at didn't have the airbag wheel in place, and asked if that would be a problem. They said that as long as they know about it when I create the new policy, then it is not a problem. However, my premiums would be adjusted up a bit to reflect the fact that this safety device is not in place (it's about a $75/year hit).
