WANTED 996 TRIANGULAR AIRBAG
Hey guys
I just picked up a very nice brand new steering wheel, but it does not have an airbag. Do any of you have one taking space in your garage?
Thanks
Ron

I bought one on ebay that I don't want - I did not realize it was for a 996, here is the link to the auction - just ended.....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...5060012&rd=1,1

Just ordered a new one from Sunset, the three spoke 996 iteration, not the 997 type shown on that eBay auction. Strange part is the leather airbag is about $40 less than the 'plastic' or non-leather one.
There is a $60 shipping charge for these as they have to be shipped as hazardess material.

Hi Ron, This airbag is for 2005-2006 porsche 997. THIS AIRBAG DOES NOT MOUNT ON A 993, NOR 996 three spoke steering wheel. The seller put an error and said its for 996, while part number is 997...
BTW, the msrp for the 997 airbag is $515 and from sunset should be cheaper than the auction, brand new. Sorry about that...
Chris, yes the leather airbags are very much cheaper than the plastic ones. This is obvious already in the PET catalog. You could find as low as $400 msrp from the dealer...it is the ones who have a triangular stitching around the airbag crest

I talked to the guy on Ebay and coveyed that he listed the auction wrong (only reason I bid on it). He responded and has a new, colored crest, leather airbag for the 996 steering wheel. I have pics and can forward if you like.
I was bidding on this and planning to by a new wheel from GERT. I know that his price on the airbag is $554 US for the part, so I was coming out ahead. I have now bought a steering wheel complete with airbag from a fellow rennlister, so not longer have a need for the Ebay one. This is for the P96 steering wheel and would be about $475 for the airbag new and in box. I am not sure if this is a good price, I was only bidding because I saw it was less than from Gert. If you are interested in this price I could put you in touch with the seller.
I don't need it, even though he has the correct part now.

Black, leather, colored crest airbag is around $450 from Sunset, IIRC. Add shipping, and it is crazy $$ since it is a hazardous material. They quoted me about $100 but were unable to confirm until it actually shipped.

yeah, I ended up buying from a dealer off of eBay in SoCal for the same reason. Paid a bit more for the airbag but the shipping was about $20. Susnet is doing it the correct way, of course.
I couldn't deal with the "around $100 and it could be more" scenario... too vague
