I've been oogling over the 356's lately. My daily driver is an 05 nissan frontier crew cab truck, which is ok and offers good utility, but the mileage sucks. Would like to trade it in for something smaller and more fuel efficient. A hybrid or diesel would be nice, but there doesn't seem to be anything out there that suits me. Anyway, getting off topic here.

My vintage car that I bought in November and quickly fell in love w/ is a 68 Datsun 2000 roadster. Talk about a fun car to putz around in. Engine was rebuilt before I bought it, as were other things. I recently upgraded the entire suspension and got a new soft top. Next up is exhaust and other miscelaneous stuff. And for the finale, it will have body work done and frame off paint job in factory metalic silver, new rubber and freshly re-chromed bits. Unfortunately, it will take about a year to complete.

Here's a link to a pic which has the old wheel/tire combo before I upgraded and the old ride height before lowering recently: http://www.311s.org/registry/1968/srl311-05061.html

I've been sampling a few vintage cars in addition to my RS America garage queen. A '61 flat-floor XKE roadster, then a gulf blue '73 RS replica and now a '66 Mercedes 230SL with 15K original miles, completely original, fully-documented one owner time capsule car. The SL is a blvd cruiser rather than a sports car but it is extremely reliable and easy to live with. Porsches are my passion so I'd like to sell the SL and find a nice '72-73 911 coupe. Also considering a Boxster S since they are fun to drive.

Not a car...but a vintage 1958 Ford Powermaster tractor.

With sheet metal that cool and retro to boot, it's clearly the 993 of tractors....

1979 Jeep Wagoneer. It was been a work in progress over the past 4 years. I would say I am about 80% there on the resotration.

I've owned three early 911s in the last couple of years: 69T w/ 2.9, 72S with 2.7 and RS flares, and the just sold 72T RS look. Owning the early cars is what spurred me to buy my 993 as my daily driver.

I'd hardly call the 993 vintage but getting out of my 72 and into the 98 and you know you're in close to the same car.

The windshield, dash, sitting position are pretty much identical. There's a similarity in feel and sound too.

Old cars are fun and of the old cars, early 911s are probably the most modern feeling, especially if you have modern Porsche experience.
