Default Turbo twist 2 wheels

Can a 18 x 11 turbo twist 2 wheel fit in a 1998 993 widebody? Why does the local Porsche shop tell me that I should not go wider than 285/30/18? Please help!

Thanks

Cool Can it fit?

Probably....when you go larger than 285, it becomes more of a challenge to match up the fronts. The rolling radius, front to rear, must be within about 5%. The actual number is in the Shop Manual.

I can see going super wide for the track, but not for the street. But that is just me. A 225 and 285 combo is pretty slick.

The 11's WILL fit a widebody, I have them on my 4S. The tire size is irrelevant, tire Mfg's call them by those common #'s, but you must look at the actual dimensions of the tire that count. The difference between front and rear rolling is actually 3% (calc. by dividing the rear by the front rolling dia.). You should technically be able to go to 305's or better depending on the Mfg and the amount of rear camber.

I use the 996 turbo wheels on my 97 C2S with 295/30s on the rear. Be sure you get the ones with the 45mm offset.

The 225/40s on the front are actually a bit taller (~1.5% more rolling dia.) than 285/30s. They are almost exactly the same height as the 295/30s.
