Be careful!! I may be visiting sooner than later. We have friends in SF and San Rafael who we've been talking about visiting. Now that the kids are getting bigger it just may happen.

Yep, that's exactly what I did! There is a "required" service at 90k according to Porsche and at the advice of some local 993 owners, I will continue do a major service every 30k.

I hate my impatience. My order from Pelican Parts is going to the office but I won't be there tomorrow so I went to BAP-Geon and bought some belts from them. Anyone heard of Bando belts? I'm so pissed at myself.

Oh and it makes my P car seem so much faster.

From 29 years of experience, don't put anything on but Porsche factory belts, it will save you a lot of headache.

This is so true (but often, unfortunately ignored).

At 28K miles - I just had my 30K-service done. Altho' NOT stipulated in the official-service-interval-ese - I ordered the part from AutohausAZ and asked my mechanic to change it.

It took him 4 hours (and he's an expert!) - and he had to fashion his own tool - a modified crows-foot. He said it took a LOT of 'soaking' to get it to (eventually) budge.

But the job is done. :-)

I asked him to keep the old one (even if he destroyed it during removal) so that I could take a looksee at the amount of carbon build-up. As it so happened there was no carbon inside, and I mean none, some rust, yes, but not carbon.

Even though this particular 'part-replacement' added a significant amount to the bill -- I'm still glad I changed it though. Here in the NY area - a check engine light / SAI-induced or otherwise - literally grounds your car.

Not that I have seen. Pelican makes it simple. 1 click. If no one else is doing it, I would highly recommend it for people like me who who have been mainstream online buyers for several years.

Dont forget to add pollen filters, sai valve, belts, and spark plug wires--which the sai valve and wires being optional. Pelican was out of the Beru wires.

I stole this list from Gerry, with a few other things Im adding for my schedule service in the next couple of weeks.

18. Change manual transmission fluid.
19. Bleed/flush the clutch hydraulic system

Note The brake system was completely flushed less than 7 months ago by Motorsports--might as well do it again (ATE super blue)
21. Please perform all the (remaining) normal checks, lubrications etc. as specified in the
60k service interval. In particular, please re-lubricate/check tolerances of the manual
transmission gear-shift linkages/bushings etc.
22. Refinsh all 4 wheels (still need you to look at them) you quoted me $500
