Default check engine / power loss

My '95 993 check engine light is cycling on & off every 3-5 mins. Acceleration & power problems also occuring sometimes while the light is on & sometimes when the light is off. What ya think.

O2 sensor? - also sounds like misfires from old plugs or bad wires. Also could be carbon tracks built-up inside your distributor cap.

O2 sensor sounds good to me as I've been suspect as it appears damaged(bent). Just purchased car. Any scoop on self replacement?

We use the OEM one; part # 993 606 126 01 as thats a plug 'n play solution.

Chris made an excellent suggestion about misfires; unless you have all the maintenance records about the car, its good practice to replace the ignition parts that generate misfires and running problems. If these cars are allowed to do that for long, the cat temperatures get high enough to melt the core and render it useless.

Plugs, caps, rotors, and wires are all regular wear items and I'd also consider replacing the fuel filter, air filter and of course, an oil change. If the car has more than 60K miles on it, I'd also have someone replace the distributor drivebelt.

Thanks, By the way I am a rennlist member but not updated as of yet. Will a bad o2 sensor cause a miss-fire?

Have you tried reading the fault code with the accelerator pedal?
