Default Difference between C2 v. C4

Sorry for the dumb question, but I am looking for a nice 993. Pretty much think the C2 will suit me fine. Drove older 911's long ago and got use to the over steer, or when it got loose once it scared me once but was not afraid of it. With some practice I could feel when it was about to swap ends. I'm not that bold anymore, at least on the street, but like to get into it on occasion.

The big diff of course is $$$$. Is the C4 traction control awesome or mediocre. Is it worth it? George

gmcjetpilot,
Both cars are excellent but living in my current climate I have no need for 4wd so I have a 2wd Carrera.

The 4wd Carrera is much better in the rain and adverse conditions than any 2wd Carrera but in my personal opinion, not quite as comfortable to me as a 2wd Carrera in hot dry conditions (So Cal summers).

I used to own a nice little farm down south of you in Duplin County (Faison) and know your weather conditions well and think a 4wd Carrera may suite your conditions better.

Good Luck with your search for the right car........ZP44

I agree ... depends on where you live as to whether you need the AWD. Also depends on what you want to use it for. Either way ... you should really learn the difference in driving these cars if you want to do "spirited" street driving ... or track driving. Things can happen pretty fast even with just "spirited" street driving ...both cars handle much differently.

Good luck and enjoy the hunt. Make sure to post some pics when you decide.

There is no meaningful price difference btn 2 and 4 wheel drive, except for the wide-bodies C2S vs C4S...so price should not be a determining issue.

Does that mean I should sell C4 before moving to the Triangle? Its looking like a good possibility for me and the family over the course of the next 8 months with a new business venture.

Speaking of winter, its snowing here today!! Supposed to get up to 24" in my backyard (Snowbird)

I dont recall if the only other previous 993 I drove was a C2 or C4. I test drove one at a place called Exotic-Imports.com but it had a fender bender--which they couldnt tell me exactly what happened. Think it may have been a 96 C4S. Either way, I think you will be satisfied.

Is the C4 traction control awesome or mediocre.
Mediocre, but generally adequate.
Is it worth it?
Yes, if you drive in low traction conditions.

It's not "hand-of-God" AWD that can save your butt from anything and let you go 0-60 with one side on ice and the other side on gravel without even thinking about it. The 993 C4 system is just a bit of extra help when you need it.
The big diff of course is $$$$.
Shouldn't be much difference. Keep looking.
