Default Oil change problem

I'm changing my oil for the first time today and accidently unscrewed the wrong drain plug on the crank case. I unscrewed the plug forward of the actual plug. The one I unscrewed is located almost directly under the oil tube that has to be moved to access the engine mounted filter. To make matters worse, there was a spring assembly that popped out along with an aluminum collar the slides into the spring. I can assemble it two ways- with the collar seated in the drain plug and slide the spring over the collar or place the collar on the on the end of the spring and seat the other end of the spring into the drain plug. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm now afraid to install the plug without further info. I am also frustrated because I took pictures to illustrate my dilema but even on my camera's lowest resolution setting rennlist says the files are too big.

You are not the first to do this. You should be able to find it on a search.

Guys, I can't thank you enough! That was it. BTW, Chris, I also changed my valve cover gaskets with the help of the note you wrote me the other day. Thanks again!
