How do immobilizers work?
I've been reading the other thread about immobilizers and am wondering if they are a standard feature? I've got the same car, 95 993 coupe, with blinking red lights in what would be push down lock mechanisms in a regular car. How do immobilizers work, how do I know if I have them, and are they a maintenance item?

You know if you have it IF the car deactivates its ability to start AFTER sitting for a period of time i.e. you unlock your 993, you wait 5 minutes and it requires you to push the remote again in order to start the car. As well, the little red sensor will light warning you that it is necessary to push the remote again.
Make sense? You could also look under your driver's seat for the brain.

I don't have the remote opener, I have to use the key. I've never experienced an inability to start the car. Guess they aren't in my car.
One more problem I don't have to think about.

Was the remote unlock/lock feature an option in 95? I looked at a 95 original owner and he too had to use the key to open the door. My 97 has the remote and if I use the key, the alarm starts until I press the remote.
