while "soft" glass (if there is such a thing, and the people i have spoken with in the industry debate that it exists) might theoretically pit more easily, it is also (theoretically) less likely to crack from an impact (i'd prefer pitting to cracking any day...)

(Oh yeah, they charged $700+)

As part of my 30K-service/Viper-Bob Bilstein-HD+sways "winter project" I've asked the tech. to see if he can remove the existing (SIGLA) glass and 'RE-install' it -properly this time.

He called up his glass-guy and the glass-guy basically said that 9 times out of 10 they crack when you try and remove them. I said, go ahead anyways, so I *may* be looking at (his quote) an additional bill of $1,100 for another new one.

At this stage, I really don't care, I got this car _for the long term_ and -- yep, I'm man enuf to admit this -- "only the best for my 993". And if the best means a new windscreen - so be it.

Thats a bummer.

I left it sit for about 40 hours before I moved it or drove and I will report back that I dont hear a creak or a squeak while driving on the freeway. It looks great.

Alpine Glass here in SLC (Draper, UT) does a lot of Porsche windows and they emphasize do not move or touch the car for at least 24hrs if all possible. The longer it sits, the better Dont even open the door. They spent about 4hrs working on it and Im sure you will find people out there that may not have the experience, knowledge, or patience as other companies.

I'd leave the glass out and just wear a helmet

Default Get thee to the Tint Shop...

and have them place a sheet of tint across the new windshield. I had this done on my new windshield....it prevents those pesky sand pits form occurring and resists breaks from rocks. This is essential if you do any track work!

Just had mine replaced last week. I think it was about $2000 which included the glass, seal, gasket and mirror (which wasn't needed but was installed anyway - anyone need a free mirror? Used but in great shape). Luckily it was a valid insurance claim and cost only $250 out of my pocket.

The installer, (Advanced Auto Glass) seems to have done a good job; no creaks or leaks. As a side note, the old window came out w/out breaking.

If the installer uses the proper tools, any windshield can be removed without breaking. (http://www.equalizer.com)

Hey Martin ...how goes, man?!!

Do you mean over the entire surface of the glass? In CA, it's illegal to install any tint on the front glass ...surprised your guy did it. Still, my guess from my experience anyway is that I would hate to constantly look through any film as they are never as clear as not having film ...fine for side/rear glass, but I don't drive looking through those (often ). How's it look to you?

I got another real small rock chip about 2 weeks ago on the new windshield.

Its like washing your car and have a bird **** it immediately. However, this bird **** cant be removed.
