I get hit upon all the time when I am in the Cab out running errands. It must be the "Movie Star Aura" that driving a sportscar with the top down produces. This weekend our region went on a fun run after the monthly breaffast meeting. I have to tell you that the feeling of driving in the mountains in a Porsche with the top down is highly UNDERRATED.
In my very limited experience the only guys who seem to not like Cabs are short and ugly.
I want a pair, one Coupe and one Cab both 993s. The wifey has not yet said no. But I fear I need to vist the Jewelry store before I buy.

It is just a preference thing, and I prefer coupes. My dad has always had a convertible of some sort, and although his love for cars rubbed off on me, his love for cabs never did. I also don't care for the sunroof. It isn't a weight or stiffness thing for me because I don't track the car, I would just prefer to have extra headroom. I think that the 993 is one of the best looking cars ever produced and the cab top ruins the lines IMHO. But that's me, get what makes you happy.

Joking aside, I love the Cab but I don't like the way the top sits when retracted and feel it takes away from the overall look of the car. I'll be spending a little more time with one this season, however, (InTheAir's former car) and will see if the positives outweigh the negatives.
Cheers,

Race Car
If it was my daily driver or track car, then I would have a Coupe. But since this is my "toy" car, then a Cab is the only way to go.
Nothing beats down driving with the top down. A Porsche should involve the driver with the road and its surrounding rather than isolate you from it. The Cab accentuates this feeling even more. It's pure enjoyment.
Now...if you want to have your cake and eat it too, get one of each.

I have a cab but also believe that the 993 lines are compromised a bit with the cab top. It was a tough decision for me but all-in-all, on really nice spring or fall days (or winter days here in LA) or nice summer evenings, driving top down in a 993 with LPMMs is really an awesome experience. I may make it to the track one day but have not yet. I figure before my kids bet big, I may try autox if anything. After they can no longer fit in the rear seats, I may put a roll bar in the car for track purposes if I really get into the track.

I'm on my second Cab and wouldn't have it any other way!!!
My 911 is for nice weather only and who the hell wants to be "inside" on a nice day?
If I cannot fully enjoy my Porsche, I drive my SUV.
Cab top is down nearly all the time.

Cab is the way to go - particularly if you want to make the wife happy. I've had MB convertibles - 500 SL, 560 SL, etc. and while they are more comfortable, there is no where near the road feel and excitement you get from a 993.

My first 993 was a '95 cab. I wanted a convertible and figured, hmmm I love 993's, so why not. I searched and came across a beautiful GP White w/ blue int and top. Loved the car. Had it lowed, had the exhaust unpacked. It was gorgeous. I sold it after 3 + years. I missed it.
The coupe is a different car, and I do miss dropping the top.

I have a 993 coupe and had a S2000, as well. That was a fun combo. Love convertibles, but - no insult intended - the 993 convertible is not as attractive to me as the coupe. I agree the boxster (though I would only buy a cheap used one, never new), the S2000, and some older, classic convertibles look better (yes to AH 3000 or bugeye, some older Jags, etc, but who can keep them running and drive in all weather?).

My first (and only 993) is a CAB. I L O V E it. Nothing like driving with the top down after a long day/tough day, to put a smile on your face. Now mind you, I have not yet lived through a Florida summer with it, but as it is not my DD, I think I can manage .

Hey Ron...in Florida's summertime, the top goes down after sunset...for the breezy nights! On the other hand...during the winter, is top down 100% of the time...a real blast...
