Default MY 1995 18" wheels...revisited

Looking for updates on any late problems renlisters may have encountered going to 18" wheels on MY95 with vin. # <VIN 99 7 SS 323614 despite the TSB# 4440 recs? AFAIK PCNA never explained the reason for that TSB. If it reported a failed part(s) at least it would have given us something to monitor or improve.

I have one of these early MY95 cars and have recently acquired some 18" wheels but after a search here I have some questions before installing them.

Already installed the steering rack brace with no problems, although I read some reports that it may not install easily on some early 1995 cars for unknown reasons, perhaps a different version rack?

Would especially like to hear from those that have been tracking there cars since that is my plan. Any specific suspension or other mods that may be useful to avoid any problems?

Thanks.

Since you already have the rack brace installed, you are all set. Porsche didnt change anything that I am aware of since 1995 in this area of the car, other than adding the brace as std equipment. Your all set

Thanks Chris.

This 18" wheel approval situation on the MY 95 only after a certain vin# seems odd. After reading some of the TSB's released later from PCNA ( ala geolab )it seems like they may have reversed that decision. It would be interesting as to what the issues were but I suspect we may never really know.

I'll put em on and see how it goes!

Cheers!

No problems here, Mark. (Have we emailed before?) Been tracking with 18" wheels for almost five years with my late build '95.

Mark, FWIW, I *think* the issue with the earlier 95s is the clearance between the brace and the vacuum booster can. It is really close on mine, almost touching. I think I could measure the clearance with a feeler guage.
I decided that even if it does rub, no harm done. Not much to hurt there.
I suspect it is your typical conservative Porsche tsb.

I think we may have reached the Mark limit on this thread

I still need to install the brace on the Rivi Blu cab.

Mark in B, Yes we have been corresponding and thanks for all the help. Some FM10's are on the way!

MarkD, I am not sure what you mean by the "vacuum booster can" being in the way. Is that the large round thingy at the top of the picture? I guess the brace does come slose to it but I think my RS sway bar is even closer! I don't have a pic of mine but I borrowed the one below courtesy of TheOtherEric and this is what mine looks like. I also have a '95 built in '94 but it is possible the steering rack was changed somwhere around that time.

Yes, Mark limit!!!

Track with 17's and 18's.
