Default 996 GT3 steering wheel

is the GT3 3-spoke wheel different from the regular 996 3-spoke wheel? Will the GT3 wheel fit in our 993s?

TIA
Wolfgang

I believe it is exactly the same, although many GT3's do have the "thicker rim" option. The 996 wheel is a straight bolt-on swap into a 993. I assume you are referring to the airbag wheel.

Mine has a GT3 Cup/Momo Mod.07 non-airbag wheel. Just about any wheel is a vast improvement over the Buick-looking 4-spoke stocker!

Before I installed the Momo, I tried to find a good used GT3 or 996 3-spoke wheel, but every one I found was way too expensive.

Jack,

I wonder how many other 993's have no airbags. Any idea?

As far as I know, all North American cars were delivered with airbags. Regulations dixit..

However, the ROW cars could be had without Airbags: my own vehicle was one of them.

Good luck

Monique,

I was wondering how many US owners have removed their airbags. I should've been more clear.

From the posts here, it seems to be a popular mod. Actual numbers unknown.

How about that square piece behind the stock wheel? What happens to that? Does it leave a gaping hole or something, because I kind of like the new airbag SW on the 997?

Here's my non-airbag Momo Mod.07 SE...the hub kit interfaces just fine with the square steering column shroud.

Thanks for your replies, I did not know that the European 993s had a "no-airbag" option...

I found this GT3 wheel on e-bay, sent an e-mail to the seller and poof!, the listing was gone....Oh well

Actually, I purchased a black three spoke wheel without airbag from a rennlister a few months ago, so I am looking for an airbag only (preferrably leather). They seem to be like gold...can't even find them or they cost an arm and a leg....
At this point I'll take a whole wheel as long as it includes an airbag...my second color choice is grey to match my interior.

Loanwolf-

Your car color reminds me of the blue metallic on the old vettes. Very nice.
