Default Driver's side brake light out-- not the bulb... ???

Hey,

My driver's side brake light is out. Passenger side and highboy brake lights in the basket handle work fine. I replaced the bulb. Still doesn't work. No obvious signs of degraded wiring. What do I check next?

Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure it is his muffler bearing that is the problem .... in all seriousness sometimes the tin tracks on the board the bulb goes in get cracked over time.

Check that the contacts in the bottom of the socket have not lost their "springiness" and gone below the level of where they would contact the bulb terminals. That happened on one of my 928's. You can pry them up gently with a pick if they have. Just don't do it with the light switch on. It could also be a bad ground. Put the bulb in the socket, turn it on and run a piece of wire from a clean ground to the bulb base and see if it works.

Check the contacts for corrosion. I had the same issue on my '95 C2. Also, check the connections with a voltmeter. Sometimes the solder connection becomes corroded and blocks signaling.

Maybe you better move the thread to the "Imbecile" forum. Replacement bulbs aren't likely to fix the problem when they're only rated for 6.2 volts....
