Would you take your p-car to (is it safe to)drive and park around "The Mall" area(Museum of Natural History, Capitol, Smithsonian, Lincoln Memorial etc)??
I'd take the Metro. Dumps you off right in front of Air and Space, IIRC. I never liked driving in the city. I wouldn't take any nice car there. Plus this time of year, you get freezing rain and dirty slush, maybe even salt.
I work in DC and to be quite honest, unless you are going to park the car in a parking garage while you visit the mall, you risk some lame-o backing into you car while they are trying to parallel park in the city. I have seen it too often from my office window, bimmers and merc's being backed into with the offenders not really giving a hoot if they "tap" your bumper while trying to fit into a space. Other then that the mall is quite safe during the daytime hours but there are quite a lot of tourists and schools kids from all over and yes, they will all "bend" over to look into you car with their nice belt buckles touching your paint! Just my 2 cents.

Very good points. I was thinking about the parellel parking too. I've parked around the mall several times with my truck and seen folks try to squezze in tight spaces
Do you recommend any good parking garage near Museum of Natural History/Smithsonian area?
there is 3rd street right on the center of the mall area that has some larger spots that work okay. During the summer I practice with my soccer team right in front of the pool near the capital building and never have had any problems. BUT - i was right there and kept my eye on it. Garage or Metro is best.
I work a couple blocks from the mall and park on the meter or if I'm coming in real early I'll park in a garage. No problems so far, however I'm very choosey about the meter spots I pick.
For a day at the museums, I'll take the metro. NB - museum food is ridiculously EXPENSIVE. I was at Natural History back in December and ran into Vanilla Ice in the cafeteria. Folks were still after him for autographs.
Agree with all, but the pot holes/major "wheel traps" are the main reason I stay away. They can ruin one of our wheels and suspension pieces in a heart beat and they are all over the place - especially after the winter. Drive defensively!
I am in the DC area almost every week on business (Herndon/Reston area)... please let me know if there are ever RL get togethers during the week...I know probably a rare occasion, but I wouldnt want to miss the opportunity to see Porsches while out of town....!

I work right in Reston. Maybe a few others will chime in and we'll have a small gathering
