I'm replacing my six (!) year old battery (still works!), with an Odyssey 925 because a. it's been over six years, and b. I'm having a sound system installed with two large amps. I did a search but came up empty on a part number or place to find an inexpensive, effective battery hold down bracket (not an expensive billet piece) that bolts right into a 993.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Someone here built one some time ago.
Or there is this.. http://www.odysseybatteries.com/acce.../plastichd.htm
I prefer the billet one. For racing, the aluminum hold down or the metal one is preferred.

Why is a hold down needed? I guess the OEM doesn't really have a hold down mechanism in case of a rollover? Or does the current hold down just doesn't fit the Odyssey battery?

The stock battery uses a hold-down clamp at the bottom IIRC.

1) With the plastic and billet mounts, is anything else needed for an install?
2) The dealer is pushing the metal jacket version. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Scott, I just bought an Odyssey PC925T (T stands for the regular terminal posts) from batteryweb.com in Florida. The guy was pushing the metall jacket, too, but I had concerns about fit and just went with the standard battery. Hell, none of of my other batteries have a metal jacket and they're all filled with acid.
I also eneded up getting the battery bracket ($89) from racerpartswholesale.com, but I bought their last one. Sorry...

To tankertoad;
wouldn't you have been better off with a 1200 if you'll be driving two big amps?? I thought 925's were good for normal use.

Yes, I know mine is a 944, but I essentially did exactly what you are asking just last week. Went to the local hardware and got some heavy duty metal strapping (NOT the lighter weight duct strapping). Some 'custom' bends, a bit of dremel work, and some rubber tool dip, and I have a lightweight battery mount that bolts to the factory location, requires no hole drilling, and is 100% reversible.
Sure it's kinda ghetto, but... it works and will pass local tech for DE use. And I saved enough on the bracket alone to buy the battery. Perhaps it will work in a 993?
