Question OT - Rare Sight At The Shop

Rare sight indeed, a Ferrari F40. Interestingly, this "supercar" is driven by what's basically a blown 308 engine. Fast as hell but akin to maintaining the space shuttle when it comes to keeping it in tune and/or operating at peak performance.

It's a recent purchase (literally off an indie lot) for $400,000.00 (that's ***** if you ask me). In today's market, that would nearly get you a gently "pre-owned" Carrera GT for weekend use and a new 997 GT3 as your daily driver.

Which would you rather have?

Love the look of those

But more importantly......where have you found a CGT and 997 GT3 for a $400K? The CGT is still bring $3-350K and the GT3 is still 'buck and a quarter.....isn't it?

The good side of me is saying porsche, the bad side is saying ferrari. Which of the 2 choices are likely to appreciate?

...very good point about newer Porsche's and depreciation. As for the previous comment...I said "nearly" a CGT (which can be had for approx. $325K) and a GT3...perhaps a MK II 996 version then. Geez....nothing gets past this crowd!

I'd still get the F40 I still has goosebumps thinking the time I rode in one at Moroso in 1992. The violent sound and motion of the rev limiter, the wastegates popping and the sheer acceleration/braking forces are permanently etched into my memory. The F40 is the ultimate in provoking raw gearhead emotions in my book and that has to worth something!

The F40 is awesome. A guy used to bring his (with Hoosiers) to Mid Ohio for one of the DE's.

When you said it was a rare sight at the shop, I knew right away you were not talking about a maintenance shop !

It's not just how good they look, but the sounds they make.

View (and listen to) the Chasing a Legend Video Clip Here

Turn your speakers way up and grab a bibb.

You ask "which would you rather have" as if the CGT is somehow more desirable? The F40 is in a different league than the CGT, imho. Not that I would turn down a CGT

The F40 tops my list too. You can have that (ugly) F50 and (even uglier) Enzo. But, dollar for dollar, when it comes to '80's supercars, I'd take a Countach (along with it's myriad of maintenence problems) over an F40.

That video was very cool! One of two things was hapening there - That F50 GT-1 was out on a sunday cruise, or that guy was running the **** out of that F355 to keep up!
