Good job, Gerry. You may need to track down victims and the trooper who worked the scene as your report to the police may not be terribly likely to reach the right hands without a little guidance. My experience with police reports is that they typically don't connect the dots.

Good point. Too often, that is the case.

Gerry definitely gets the good samaritan award today.

I've unfortunately witnessed two separate accidents where aggressive drivers racing past me, one driving a subaru wagon and the other a 4runner, lost control and crashed ahead of me. They got what was coming to them but it's unfortunate when bystanders bare the cost of the stupidity. Hope the Explorer passengers where okay.

Thanx for the advice -- and I am going to follow it.

I've a cop-friend in the Nassau Co. police dept. -- to whom I'm going to forward the nitty-gritty details (e.g. description of perp, the lic. plate itself) -- stuff that I left out of the diatribe (...to protect the innocent ).

I'd hate to see that lame *** Scion driver get off due to pencil-neck ineptitude.

Gerry ...you know we need to hear about any followup that may result.......did the police/investigators at the accident site ever contact you?......keep us posted.....I wonder what would have transpired if you had called 911 from your car while you were keeping tabs on the scion......

I witnessed an accident on I-295 in NJ about 10 yrs. ago. I saw the whole thing. A kid lost control on the southbound lanes, crossed over the huge median at high speed and hit the car ahead of my in the northbound lanes. He hit him so hard that it felt like debris was still raining down from the sky when I came to a stop. I was sure the guy was dead. But he was fine. His left rear wheel was pushed into what had been his back seat. I stuck around for the police, told them everything, gave them my contact info and never ever heard a peep about it.

If the kid in the Scion has half a brain (debatable) he woke up and realized he needed to cut his losses and turn himself in. Once confronted with your report he likely had to 'fess up so I doubt you will hear anything since the passengers in the Explorer (assuming they were OK) had an even better view than you did. He'd have sailed away without your help though. Nice job! Score one for the good guys.

Great job! I have seen more than my share of accidents in which the offending person took off. Unfortunately, I have never been in a position to follow them or get their plate #s. Once in a while, the good guys do win.

What has happened to responsibility in this country?!
