Default Selling my 87 Carrera Cab for a 993

Hey guys I am starting to look into buying a 993, and I am starting to work for Porsche as an engineer but even with a company discount those Caymans are still out of my price range I think So I am selling my 87 Carrera Cab which is a really rare and nice car:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...4464745&rd=1,1

So now I am looking at 993s so if anyone is selling one let me know. Also what should I expect to pay for one? I mean I go on ebay and craigslist and autotrader and I see people trying to sell their 993s for as much as 6K ABOVE blue book value, that just doesnt seem right. I know my 911 is worth like 2K above blue book but 6000 dollars?!?! Everyone is trying to sell their 1996 993s for $35K and these are cars with 60K miles on them. I saw some decent ones with 45K miles on them but none in a nice color I am looking to pay about 30K is this a lost hope?

There's definitely a 993 available for 30k. I bought a C4S last year for $39k, but I accepted 78k miles. Low mileage premiums on 993's are very steep. As far as blue book goes, $6k above bluebook is in the range of where most 993's are going to sell. Very few will sell anywhere near bluebook, and these examples will likely have many things to be rectified. Half the fun is in the search, they say, but they're completely wrong, although the search is enjoyable. Having a 993 is worth the wait, and quite a pleasure. Try to drive as many examples as you can locally, even if they're outside your price range, just to get a feel for what a nice one is like.

Despite the fact that the pricing "doesn't seem right" to you, it is a reflection of what the market will bear. If you're patient and not too picky about color, you will be able to find a 993 for 30k, but it will be higher mileage >60k and minimal mods. If you look carefully, you will be able to find a nice one (well cared for, good documentation).

Well, after a bit of that, you'll be in a better position to understand why 993s are so desirable and hold their value so well.

I bought my 96 993 C2 coupe last month for $31k, with 68K miles.

Incidentally I sold my really nice 1980 911SC Targa 4 days prior for $9.7K

A lot of 993s are advertised for $35K that are nice. be patient, I waited about 4 months. I didn't see many below $30K that were worth buying, but you can get closer to $30K if you wait. As we head into summer, cabriolets will command a better price, so you may see more activity on your car in a few months.

Good luck.

re: your '87 911 cab -I remember seeing a granite green/granite green 928 once and thought the colors were awesome. Yours is the first 911 i have seen with a granite green scheme; very nice. The pictures do not do it justice.

Regarding prices; do not put much stock in blue book, Excellence price guides. They do not seem to be in line with actual transactions.
Most any 993 starts in the low $30s; if not the initial price, the total after catching up on maintainance, wear items, tires, mods, etc.

good luck,

max
