Under 20k will probably be junk .Mid to high 20's will get you a clean but not pristine car. I know , I bought a 95 w 76k miles last May. PPI revealed hanging clutch, and small oil leak.
The seller thought the clutch was on its way out due to the hanging, and discounted the car accordingly. The oil leak is so minor that I have never smelled any burning oil smell, and I have about 4 dime size drops on my garage floor. This car has good records, BilsteinsPSS-9 shocks ,a fresh service, new rotors + pads. Now the bad, it had been painted, and had a few flaws in the paint.
I bought it in the mid to high 20's. It is not pristine, but it is far from junk.
Be pateint, and you will find the right car for the right price. It probably wont be the cheapest one you see though.
And ignore the A holes with the wise *** remarks.
Rennlist is an awsome place with lots of friendly helpful people, and a few A holes. Good Luck!!

exactly... there's a HUGE difference b/w an F40 and a 993.... while F40's in most cases either keep their value or even appreciate while a 993 is holding its value it is much less than the $65k+ sticker...
seriously, these ppl need to get over themselves... he's probably like the 993 owner I met at Streets Of Woodfield who was a 40yr old loser who was completely full of himself(and probably a virgin too) w/ a nice car trying to hit on 16yr old girls... while I on the other hand WAS a 16yr old in a VR4, which is not too shabby for someone that age
I learned, however, even with that car if you skip on the buying price and PPI it costs more in the long-run... even while doing most/all my own work including engine overhaul(some machine work had to be done for me), clutch, and steering rack
the worst part is ppl like that exist on ALL forums, even on the 3000gt/Stealth boards where the maximum buying price would've been for a brand new VR4 Spyder at around $65-70k... usually less than either a 964, 993, or 996... but most of the guys from the "a-hole" category bought theirs used and paid anywhere from $20-25k and acted like they were gods...
I wonder if C-GT, GT1, GT2, GT3, or even 996-TT owners are like this? usually the upper echelon owners are some of the most helpful and generous members of a board
