Under 20K? not very many. I looked for about 4 months before I found my 993, but I was willing to go as high as $35k, I was waiting for the one in the right mechanical condition. If you are patient, deals will eventually come up, but in that price range you will be looking at high mileage and potentially problem cars that will eventually cost you in the long run. In Los Angeles area, where I am, the lowest priced car I saw around here for a 6 speed coupe was $29K and the car had 118K miles on it. I just sold my SC with 164K on it, so I understand Porsche makes motors that last, and I wasn't afraid of the mileage, I just wanted one with lower.
Ultimately I found a 96 C2 Coupe with 68K miles. We settled on $31K.
Be patient, and maybe something will come up! The worst part is the waiting, but what a reward once you take the plunge!!!

I would suggest you look at the '87 - '89 G-50 3.2 cars, alot easier to find a good one for <$20k than finding a 993 for that price. I loved my '88 and hope to get another 3.2 soon.

yea i have been looking at 964's as well, but just to let everyone know 20k is not a budget max just a question, I am willing to do 27 or so and maybe a bit more for just the right one

i'm a noob myself and currently have a 3000gt VR4 so I know what it's like to enjoy turbos....
I'd have to say from what I've read on this board that "you get what you pay for" and pretty much if you try to save a couple grand buying the car it might end up costing you way more in the long-run, best way to find if you're getting a good P-car is getting the PPI done and making sure you find a good shop to do it.
Also the 993 has been immortalized, since it's the last of the air-cooled 911's as well as there were a lot less 993's than 996's manufactured so you add those two factors and you've got a pretty good chance of even finding an early 996 for around $27k, but again get the PPI
Personally I'm impatient, but hopefully I can wait for just the right 996 after I get back from Vienna in July even if it takes until next July

i think some of our responses have been a bit harsh, and not even entirely accurate... if you are in fact willing to be "in the 20s", then i think that there are 993s out there in the mid to high 20s... 6-speeds... with higher mileage, but not necessarily wrecked exotics, etc....

Like Kika, I spent about 4 months looking for a 993 - after spending a couple months looking for a 964. In the Southeast, a 993 "worth buying" with a 6 speed seems to be starting around $30K (then of course there's negotiation). But you could get a great deal on a (90 or 91)964 these days - I saw plenty going for $25K and more but there were a few "worth buying" in the $20K range, maybe a bit lower.
It helped a lot to set up several on-line searches and hit them basically every night if possible to see what's out there. I had three 993s get away from me because I wasn't fast enough to get to the car to check out and make offer. Good deals go quickly.

LJ I like that color and thats exactly what im looking for, however i dont know if i want miles that high. It is hard to reason payin 26 or 27 for a car with 112K on it when im coming from the 944 world...

This one http://www.carsauto.com/detail.cfm?ID=212992 drove real nice. I tried to get them down on price, considering the mileage/condition and some of the stories (new gear box). He said they could move a little, but not enough for me. The salesman didn't want me to take it to the nearby independent (The Stable) for a PPI without disclosing everything the mechanic would find back to the dealer. I don't think they get along...? Not a big deal, but I pay for the PPI, and this isn't real estate. That made me uncomfortable considering both these shops of pretty well respected...

I just don't get it - why even keep this thread alive? How can we have a serious forum when you have fools wanting to get into a Porsche 911 without paying for it? Just retarded.
