Looks great Danny How's the performance? Do you think the front seats impair the sensing ability any?

As far as the performance of the V1 in my faux rear 3 third brake light nest... I can say that it sees forward radar and laser well. I know it has saved me in hearing radar far down the road ahead of me. I have not however run an experiment to see if it would be more sensitive if forward mounted.

So, the bottom line is, it works for me and I don't know if there are any adverse effects.

Danny, that is a very nice setup, only wish I could copy it in my cab!

The rear window of the cab has a very low height, the rear view mirror / rear window is almost useless to me because I can only see a couple hundred yds. behind me.

Since I didn't drive over the weekend, today was my first road test with the V1 install. first off, the V1 got hits from much further away and id'd multiple bogeys at some known locations than my passport ever did. I was driving a friend to lunch an we got some X band hits, and he asked, what is that? I said, ahh it is probably a grocery store downthe road or soemthing, then I saw a Police car coming towards us, so I said, ohh mayme it is that patrol car, nope, still ahead, about a half mile down the road we spotted a trailer with radar on it.

after we passed it, the V1 id'd side bogey, then rear. so my install does pick up hits from side and rear. I am guessing it may be picking up more reflections than direct hits.
I am convinced that the V1 is far more sensitive than my previous passport was (sold with my 80 SC Taga) and now that I have experienced the direction arrows, I love them.

kika, I agree, the V1 is a better instrument than the passport. You can tell where the source is and how many sources there are. Plus I think the x band door alarm filter is better on the V1... just my thoughts versus my 6 year old + battery powered passport.

Can't take credit for my install I purchased the car that way... it is way more fullfilling to DIY!

Danny, question for you. Does the faux thrid brake light block your vision to the rear (in the rear view mirror)?

a) Very clever and nice install. Thanks for the pics.
b) Danny, I love your custom install with the fake rear CHMSL.
c) I've had both V1 and (first gen) Passport and personally I got too many false alarms on the V1 to make it useful for me. After my last speeding ticket, where the guy got me with instant-on, and my previous ticket, where I was nailed with VASCAR (a timing system, no radar) I decided that these things are crutches and I have put them all away.

Now I just drive like an old man, no more than 9 MPH over the speed limit. If you want to speed, go to a racetrack.

You need the WAZE app! it's a group source app for traffic- Works pretty well- As long as the user-base is high in you area.

Nice. Could you share some pictures of Where you ran the power cord and where you tap into for power? Love the idea.

The V1 uses a phone cord style Jack and cable. It can be tucked inside the windshield seal on the interior and run down to the dash level where you can either plug it into a cigarette lighter socket charger or hard wire it to a 12v switching circuit such as the sunroof motor circuit or the stereo receiver power circuit. It can all be done very stealth-like.

I have a V1 mounted to the rear view mirror with a Blend Mount. I am content with the current setup, but my ideal preference would be to mount it higher like the OP did, but I haven't bothered to invest the time into figure out the custom mount construction.
