OT: What the hell did I get myself into

Nice looking truck for 10 G's. I've heard mixed reviews on the older ones along the lines of "when they're good, they're very good but when they're bad, they're very bad". I hope it doesn't give you much grief. Ownership of this truck will probably take you on new adventures (4x4ing) as you're right, following is huge and so are their clubs and events. I own an 06 RR Sport.

The ONLY way to go is to replace that EAS system with standard shocks and springs. Indeedly, no air suspension, but a good ride that'll stay together.
If you don't know anyone that knows about LR's (and I mean KNOW), find someone. Stay away from dealers.
Contact the Tennessee Rovers board (say hi to Fredd from me). They know these bricks over there.
DO NOT start going to LR dealerships. They're utter cr*p. I know. Believe me, I know.

+1 on ripping out the air suspension!
From what I understand, that is the "valve guide equivalent," #1 widely-known flaw / headache / mod on those cars. My best man had the previous generation version, ripped out the air bags and had a dood in Marina Del Rey put in coil springs. Place was right behind Bartels' H-D. Needless to say, he was much happier!

That's one way of going over to the dark (water) side. Lucky for them, if you provide anything like the service you have to us 993'ers. Congrats on the baby boy (and the new ride).
Thanks for everything (I'm slowly working my way through all your DIY's),

OMG, What did you do?

For 10K, that's a pretty good buy, BUT it's a damn good thing you're handy with a wrench. Consumer Reports has those vehicles consistently with BLACK circles and I've found their data to be very accurate. I have a 17 month old, and purchased a 4Runner (2004) because I didn't want to have to worry about anything other than oil changes and filling it up. They ride better than most cars (cruise effortlessly at triple digits), and are bullet proof. I've racked up over 55K in just over two years and the only thing I can legitimately complain about is the placement of the power window switches. If you want a superb crumb snatcher transporter, they can't be beat. You're only 15 mins down the road, so if you want to take it for a test drive to validate what I've said I'd be glad to bring it by.

Don't mess with the fancy air system. Spend the $850 for a coil spring conversion kit. Takes a few hours to fit, you'll never miss the air springs. See http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/9520LB.cfm The kit comes with a harness to fool the computer that the air springs/compressor etc. are still present so you don't get any warning lights and fault codes. The air pump and valve block is prone to failure due to moisture in the air entering the system.

Guys,
I have been reading, reading, searching, buying things here and there for the RR. So far I am pretty impressed at this truck and the way it was designed and how it can handle crazy off road conditions.
Here are the issues I have with the truck so far:
(1). EAS Electronic Air suspension malfunction.
(2). Radio wouldn't work, waiting for me to enter the key code but the button doesn't work
(3). 1 of the key/remote don't work, and both of them have worn out button covers
I have bunch of stuff ordered to repair the EAS, and an emergency bypass which will allow me to inflat the air bags when the EAS system goes crazy.
