"Thank you for writing eBay's SafeHarbor Department about a listing or
seller you would like us to investigate for fraudulent activity. We are
concerned about this type of activity and want to assure you that we
will review your report as soon as possible, usually within 24 hours.
Due to privacy concerns, we will not keep you informed about the status
of our investigation. While you will only receive this acknowledgement
of the receipt of your report, please be assured that we will thoroughly
review the situation. "
This practically always results in a pulled listing ....

Whoever is doing this is highjacking Ebay accounts that are dormant. The ones I have seen all have about 10-40 feedbacks and have usually been inactive for 1-2 years. Wonder how this is done?

To hijack an active account, I would suspect they obtain the user's e-mail address by asking an innocuous question about an auction, then phish them and trick them into responding to an e-mail that fakes a login screen.

Sorry I've been away from the Rlist for a few days... As you probably have guessed, I did get a return message from the guy running the scam and he declined my offer for local inspection / pickup. I also got an email from Ebay stating that the ad had been pulled and asking if I had completed any off-Ebay transactions with the seller.
Needless to say... the old addage has never been more true... "If it seems to be too good to be true; It probably is!"

I also ran into an EBay scam with a "second chance offer" for a set of wheels and tires. Turns out it was total BS and I turned over all the data to EBay for them to work. The seller turned out to be a guy someplace in the UK trying to take money from the unknowing. At least I caught on when I figured out the "second chance offer" was not legitimate. You had to pay very close attention to the sender address, etc. Be careful out there boys....
