Default Best Street Shock Set up for me. What would you do if you were me?

I have read (and searched) about HD's and PSS9's, H&R, B&G, Eibach and everyone's opinion. I will put Bilstein combination of something eventually.

I dont track but may do a DE event some time. If it lowers, so be it. Either way, it doesnt matter to me.

I figured after 58,800 miles, my shocks probably need replacing at some point and since Im having a my 60k tune in a few months, I might as well do the shock set up.

I dont work on anything when it comes to cars. Dont care to, dont want to, have no desire to ever do it.

I am a "spirited" driver if that makes any difference.

Bilstein shocks only, stock springs? Different springs?
Bilstein HD Shocks Only, stock springs? Different springs?
PSS9 Kit? Who makes those springs in the kit? Bilstein?

Why HD or PSS9? Why PSS9 over HD? How easy are PSS9's to adjust? Can a car idiot like me make adjustments on PSS9's without having to remove wheels?

I have the HD Bilsteins shocks - they have worked well for me. Springs are relatively cheap and the ROW M030 springs mate well with the HDs. If you do shocks and springs at the same time, you only pay for one alignment.

I have no experience with the PSS9's. I imagine they are twice as good, since they cost twice as much as the HD's.

I was in the exact same situation 8 months ago and had the Bilstein HD installed. I was fortunate that my car came with the M030 option and also M030 RoW springs (installed by the previous owner). I think that for street usage and ocasional track, this is a good compromise and also good value.

PSS9s are overkill for your purpose...IMO. Although, yes, you could adjust the settings yourself without too much trouble.

I agree with the above that the HDs and ROW MO30 springs. You will appreciate the ROW MO30 springs for your DEs, but because they are progressive rate, your around town/highway driving will still be comfortable.

Are the softer ROW M033 springs the same as the stock stiffness and are they a suitable alternative for a "Driver" car? I was curious because they're seldom mentioned. I was wondering if anyone who has these springs can weigh in with their opinion also.

For some reason, this is probably the direction I would be leaning after doing some more research. I have dropped thousands into my car over the years and extra $500-$600 going to the PSS9 kit wont be an issue. I'll just match my kids college 529 plan that dollar amount spent above the HD set up. Thats how I justify things in my life!!

Who knows, I may get on the track some day and be hooked.

Yes, they are the same spring rate as the stock springs, however they do allow you to lower the car--so, if you want the lowered car aesthetics, but the softest ride you can get in a 911, the MO33s are the ones for you.

How are the roads out there? The Bilstein HDs ride very, very well. Well-damped but nice and comfy. Even here in pothole-hell PA, I'd consider going stiffer.

+1 for the Bilstein HD / H&R combo. A tad rough on some of LA's roughest roads but otherwise fantastic with good balance at the track as well.

I would not go PSS9 if I were you unless you are prepared to have someone knowledgable help you set them up. There are several adjustments for bump and rebound and you will not be able to take advantage of the versatility of the shock unless you are quite knowledgable about shocks/suspension tuning. In fact, it is possible to make the car ride and handle worse if you don't know what you are doing.

I suppose you could get some baseline settings from R'listers if you do go PSS9.

Overkill? Blashphemer! There is no such thing as overkill! Remember the slope is steep and slippery!!!

Just kidding. I think anything's going to be better than what you have.

I have the PSS-9s and I have enjoyed them. I like the adjustabillity that it allows you. The ***** are a little difficult to get to, though. Let us know what you decide.

95 C4 993,

Where are you going to get the work done? I have been looking for a good shop.

Tom
