Those look great, but I think BMW headlight covers are plastic (they are on my X5) and thus relatively soft. Not sure how this technique would work on our glass 993 covers, though.

I agree. I don't think it will work with our glass lenses, at least not with those grit sandpaper.

I went and cleaned my lenses, that alone made a huge difference!

Autohaus AZ (no affiliation etc..) has our lenses on sale right now for $55 each! I just bought a pair last week and they where delivered the next day. I didn’t get so lucky on new fog lights, got those from the stealer.

That process is for plastic lenses only. Not glass. Now you can use this method, and i do, on our tail lights and cornering lamps. They will come out like new. You can use this on clear or colored lenses. Just an unsolicited FYI.

There also is a cloth wheel and rouge made for restoring the clarity and shine to plastics. Simply assemble the wheel to a mandril and attach to a drill. Apply a bit of rouge and viola! A whole lot less time and effort than all this hand-sanding. In severe cases, might have to start with 400 grit and a 600 grit.

I've done a couple of acrylic stereo turntable covers this way. Turned out great.

A PO put some thick 3M type adhesive plastic sheilds on mine. Translucent and nothin' is getting through 'em. They look slightly ungainly up close but they protect great.
