Default LSD settings question

I'm purchasing a 1996 993 in the next few weeks here and the seller is putting in a Quaife LSD for me. My question is: what settings should I use? I'm planning on tracking it quite often and otherwise using it for fast street use...I know nothing about this so all input is appreciated. Thanks.

If its the Torsen type ( not sure if Quaife makes anything other than) , I wouldnt recommend it. These units lock abruptly and offer little trail diff action. Go for the Motorsports or Guard unit.

BTW, welcome to Rennlist!!

+1 on what Mr. Walrod said. If I had my druthers, I'd go for the Guard clutch-type diff.

I just had a Guard installed in my car. If you want a used stock LSD (that could be rebuilt) I have one available.

Great advice from Chris.

Quaife differentials are not adjustable and these torque-biasing units are not ideal for track use since they open on deacceleration and do not offer the stability benefits of a clutch-pack LSD.

Cool LSA

You have that incredible Weissach suspension which is provides outstanding stability on deceleration. Couple that with a Guard LSD, you are golden. I have a Guard on my shopping list!!! My stock LSD has long ago worn out, or so they tell me....but damn, my car still really hooks up going around the track. I suppose it is going to be much better, hopefully soon!!!

Hi Martin,

I tested my stock unit, and it was worn out. It is at Guard right now for rebuild. SOME of the stock LSDs can be rebuilt with two, rather than one, friction plate per side. I am hoping mine is in that category. The Guard units and Porsche Motorsports LSDs have 2 per side standard.
