However, with the D35 in place, the positive post is closer to the bumper, much like the battery that the Optima will be replacing. In order to get the 75/35 to sit with the correct post orientation, you have to place the battery in the "tray" with the GM-type side posts facing against the fender, which is OK, but defeats the purpose of having both the top posts and the side posts. Does this logic make sense??
My 75/35 had side and top posts. The side posts came with plastic insert covers & I just used the top posts. No problem with fitment for me.

Eric,

May I ask which way you oriented the battery on the tray? Does your side posts face outward, towards the boot, or inward, towards the fender? If the side posts are oriented towards the boot, then isn't the negative terminal closest to the front bumper? In my car, I wasn't sure if the cables can stretch far enough if the post orientation was reversed.

The side posts are to the fender side. I needed to move my ground/negative cable position slightly, but otherwise a good fit. Both cables should be able to reach in this postition.

Thanks Eric,

Given your info, I might just order the Optima 35, which has the same dimensions, but forgoes the side terminals, and has the top post terminals' polarities oriented oppositely.

Thanks for the link. I like the fact that the battery doesn't have the other two posts that we don't need.

Kendal,

According to Eric, you also do not need to order any special battery hold-down clamps or trays for this Optima. The stock clamps will hold down the battery just fine.

FYI, here's a relevant link from the GT3/GT2 pages... some good practical experience with the 925 battery (and smaller):

Any issues with them? Think it might be worth the extra $20 at sears if a tradeout is needed?

FYI. I've had the Redtop for about 3 years. Got it at Costco. Maybe it's the type of battery, but I notice that if the car sits too long (about 1.5 weeks) the unit drains too much even with the key out of the ignition.

I have a battery charger, but I don't use it all the time, just in the winter. Short story is that the Redtop has already gone bad. It has around 7500 miles on it.

I don't think the sealed batteries like to sit unused. So if your car is occasional use, I would suggest a standard battery.
