Default 50k mi Anniversary: Mods & Pics!!!

A few weeks ago my cab turned 50k miles, giving me an excuse to get it detailed and take some well overdue pics this past weekend.

I joinned rennlist shortly after I bought it last spring and it's been a great ride down the slope. A big thanks to all rennlisters who helped me transform my 993 and make ownership so gratifying.

This is a great place and I'm deeply grateful to you all. Enjoy.

Thanks Zack. I took it to Pearls. They do great work on black paint. I wasn't out today but took it for a good rip on Saturday after I took the pictures. Great weather but I'm still waiting for the temperature to rise so I can put the top down.

Thanks Tim. Can't stand the front plate. I think it breaks the lines of the nose and had it off for the first few months but after 2 tickets for no front plate, I just had to put it back on. Doing a “euro plate mod” was the best compromise IMO.

Having trouble posting pics. I'd like to get rid of my front plate as well, but you know what would happen. Must have had a SLOW trip around the park to keep her that shiny for the pics! Out of curiousity, what does Pearl's charge for a detail?

LOL, yeah I was cruising. It was my first drive around Stanley Park since the windstorm and I couldn't belive the devastation. Very sad.

$375 for a full detail including engine bay. A bit on the steeper side but well worth it. Black is tough to keep swirl free.

Thumbs up The car and the mods:

I found the car in L.A. three weeks after I started the search and bought it sight unseen. I got exactly what I wanted: a blk/blk, reasonably mileage (47k mi), stock with good history and a great PPI report at well below market value. The car had a small, fully documented fender-bender that required repair and respray of the left fender and front bumper also requiring blending into the hood and door, in other words, half the car. The PO opted to have the whole car resprayed at Beverly Hills Porsche a few months before I got it so the paint is perfect. Aside from that, the car was due for the 45k mi service and the PO represented some wear issues, but frankly, the car was below my expectations when I got it. Picture this:

> What seemed to be about a dozen small dings
> The paint on the 17” cups and the calipers was faded and flaking. It looked as though someone had sprayed them with acid
> The tires were gone
> The top was badly faded, had about six pin holes and you could barely see out of the rear window
> The dashboard had a crack on it
> Both side windows had noticeable scratches
> The leather on the seats was dried up from sun exposure
> The headlights were yellowish and the tail lights were fading and crackling

The car was a disappointment to say the least. Luckily, damage was only surface/cosmetic and I’ve been working to bring the car up to within 9/10 range. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

> Paintless removal of all dings. The car is now completely straight
> Put on 18” twists with PS2s and bought an extra set of SO2s.
> Calipers removed and refinished at the body shop. I went with red since they had to be refinished anyway and I love the look on black cars.
> New top installed
> Dashboard perfectly restored by vinyl repair shop
> Both side windows replaced
> Leather seats reupholstered with thick but supple black leather. Lots of complements from local rennlisters and I like it better than OE
> Headlights cleaned and tail lights replaced
> 45k mi service done at 47k mi when I got the car

Other mods/service include the following:

> Strut brace
> HD/ ROW M030. Best mod!!!
> LPMMs. Second best mod.
> Drilled airbox. Best bang-for-the-buck mod.
> Removed engine tray
> GB big ovals
> Spacers
> Cleaned ISV valve
> BG44K treatment followed by 50k mi oil change
> Euro plate mod
> Broken speedo DIY
> Custom-made floor mats

What’s next?

> HID’s are in the bonnet and are being installed tomorrow at Mike’s
> Split grille is in my storage room awaiting trip to the body shop
> Front splitters should arrive this week
> Basket handle delete
> Front and rear bumperette delete
> Clear signal lenses

I’m gonna stop here and keep this car as a GQ to share with the GF and get her into AX and DE. I’ll continue the madness after I purchase a 993TT later this year and maybe think about building a dedicated track car sometime in the future, time permitting. Something like Rob’s (AC993C2S) RSCS clone.

THIS AIN’T NO SLOPE, IT’S A DAMN BOTTOMLESS PIT!!!

In agreement about the pit. It's funny how the wet weather over the past few months has increased my time on here and started the parts piling up in the garage! Love to see some before/after interior pics if you have them. Which upholstery shop did you use? My driver's side sport seat has the leather ever so slightly pulling away at the top and I'd love to get it fixed!

I think I have some pics of the interior before the I got the seats done and I'll have to take pics of the current interior. Pro Leather did the job but from what you're describing, I'd go see Lou at Pacific Auto Trim. He's the best interior shop in town. Pro Leather specifically does leather seat conversions.

BTW, sport seats...nice!

Thanx for the info LJ, I'll check with them later this week.
Cheers, Tim
