I recently put on a KLA brace. I like that it fits under the carpet. I was surprised at two things: first, how thick the steel parts were (the parts that bolt to the car). There are just enough threads to fully (I think) engage the nuts. Second, I was surprised at how easy it was to pull the towers together or push them apart by turning the bar. I gotta belive that without the brace, those things are moving around more than we think under hard cornering.

Remember not to overtorque the bolts which, from the posts we've seen here, sounds pretty easy to do.

Someone correct me on this - I think they take only 18 lb-ft of torque.

Regards to all.

David,
I would certainly not exceed 20 ft lbs for those nuts.

Thanks for the heads-up on this Vic. I did the same thing you suggested right after you posted and it was delivered by UPS Wednesday.

I had been thinking about a strut brace for awhile and since my car's a Cab. I think it will be a good investment.

+1 I got mine last nite after I ordered the bar on Monday. No hassles and easy to deal with. Although I didn't get any instructions. Can anyone forward it along pls

OK, so I'm looking to buy one of these as well but a search of Ebay did not return anything that looked like the part shown in the previous page. Can someone shoot me the link to the close or better yet an open auction for this item? I've looked a couple of times now and I get all sorts of stuff. I just want to be sure I'm bidding on a good part and not something flimsy.

THX!

I didn't get any instructions either but between the P-car site and the folks here on RL I wasn't too concerned. I think there's a how-to on P-car.

Edit: Well, I was wrong, again. I've looked on both P-car.com and in the DIY's here on RL but found nothing for Strut Braces. I have yet to do a general search to see if someone posted inst. in a reg. thread.

Here's the link to what we bought. eBay link
If that doesn't work look up item #: 170069614129

Others sell the Schnell brand but this was the best price I've found. Check Excellence mag. too, other vendors there.

Then what's the purpose of having it?

Did anybody pre-load their brace? If so, did you put it under tension (which would pull the struts inward) or compression (which would push them out). I hope I said that right...

I will take a stab at that (warning - dubious math skills and opinions to follow) . The short answer is likely very little gain, given the physics involved in most strut brace designs. The addition of a single bar basically creates a simple rectangle, which under cornering stress will still move on the upper mounts, but relative to one another. so the top mounts will still flex, just in unison. The more effective design for strut braces involves a second brace that runs diagonally from the upper mount on one side to a lower point on the other, typically as close to the bottom of the strut as possible.

Bring back an old thread...does anyone know if this will fit under the trunk carpet? I believe this is the part number: SCSBSSALF064.
Thanks!

Andy
