My '96 C2 is for sale. I thought I'd inquire as to what you've all found to be the best "bang for your buck" as far as listing it goes. It's currently on SF Craigslist. Any other suggestions? AutoTrader, EBay Motors, - Again, best bang for buck or highest probability of success?
When I listed my C2S back in October, I found a high number of good responses from Rennlist Classifieds and the PCA online Mart. When my ads finally got into the print classifieds of Panorama and my local Region (largest PCA Region by membership), I had another round of fresh inquiries from people who don't use online classifieds, but do watch print ads. The inquiries from the print ads almost equalled the online generated inquiries. Ultimately, the car sold by good old word-of-mouth advertising.
Autotrader is about $70 for a run it 'til it sells ad. IMO, it reaches a wider audience. Believe it or not, many people have not heard of Rennlist and may find the PCA-required Porsche VIN number of the PCA classifieds to be dissuading (if that requirement is still in place).
But, you will need to become a paying member ($17) before listing it there (or even on these forums).
I currently have mine listed in the Rennlist classifieds, PCA, craigslist, and Pelican. But I haven't yet ventured into the land of eBay, autotrader, or cars.com.

No VIN number required for PCA Mart. Wasn't required in '03 either for me.
I have a Mercedes currently for sale (sweet 500E if anyone likes Porsche built cars here.... heheh). So far the only inquries have bene from the CL ads. Nothing form Autotrader.
This was the case on my previous sale of a 300E and a pair of motorcycles... Riht now a 'Run till ya Sell' add on Autotrader is costing me $50 with 9 photos. CL ad is of course free. I've found most of my cars on Autotrader.. not sure why it's not seemed to work well for me.
I put my 64 230SL on Craigs list last tuesday and by wednesday morning I had 43 offers and sold it to the first guy that emailed. Seems like a good way to go to me and free!
I bought and sold off of Craigslist recently. Much easier than eBay, imo. I don't think there is one media that is best. It is all timing and filtering out tire kickers and penny wise dollar foolish buyers. That said I also used Rennlist, PCA, and local clubs web sites recently for both selling and buying to increase my visibility. That said, NY Times private classified ads have a very broad distribution as our on-line guys are one group of buyers, but still a large market place reading print classifies on a Sunday morning.
If cost isn't an issue, the more exposure the better. The only downside is that you will increase the number of people who will annoy you with questions like "will you take one half of your asking price plus my pet goat?".
Most exposure would be Ebay, Autotrader, cars.com, Craigslist, PCA, Rennlist.
I put one of my vehicles on Ebay once and you do get people making weird offers. When I was selling my SUV, I didnt realize people think I wanted a couple of Quads and 88 Mustang sitting next to some barn with the interior ripped out as a partial payment. Being a long time Ebayer, you learn how to weed people out quickly and ignore or be short with them.

On the positive side of things, I bought my Porsche and Bronco on Ebay-from the same guy a year a part from each other.
