Thumbs up

I drained both my front and rear differentials this morning. After reading this thread last week, I was a bit worried. Both of mine came out no problem with a 3/8" drive ratchet with 10mm hex socket. I'd say all 4 of my plugs were torqued correctly (22 Nm fill, 30 Nm drain), and my fill plugs had washers behind them, a sign that the oil had been replaced before.

Must be the season for transmission oil change. Good job!!

I also did mine this morning for the first time since owning this car. I have no way of knowing when it was changed last.

The drain plug needed quite a bit of coercion but finally popped loose. I put so much pressure on the drain plug using an 18"- 1/4" drive T-bar, it did very slightly deform the plug's drive hole but was still usable. I plan to replace it with a new one for the next change. When torquing to spec seemed so much looser than when removing for sure.

I noticed both plugs had copper crush washers and the new ones from the dealer are aluminum is this correct?

Hey Mark,

yeah I noticed your post about draining your fluid as well (I have no idea what oil is green). All four of my old crush washers were aluminum, and the new ones were aluminum, too. I'm not sure what the originals were.

I didn't do the fill yet, but I bought a neat do-hickey (that's a technical term) at Cdn Tire for doing so. It has a hose with a stopper at the end, and a fitting at the top that screws onto either a large 4l-style jug, or small 1l-style jug of fluid. You can turn the fitting to start or stop the flow of fluid. Should make the fill go a bit cleaner. I need to rebuild my LSD before refilling though.
