Default Interior light loose....Any suggestions?

The interior light on my 1997 Cabriolet is loose. The entire fixture just pops out of its spot and is the light is dangling by the wires. I can see that the fixture has a brass fitting on each side to hold it in place but I can't seem to get the fixture to stay in place. Any suggestions? TIA

I used black silicone adhesive from Kragen or checker depending where you live. I did this two years ago and it has not fallen out since.

Steve:

Thanks for your suggestion of silicon adhesive. If I use this adhesive will I still have access to the bulb for replacement when necessary?

The stuff I used was Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant number 16B. Its rubber/glue. To replace the bulb you would have to pry the thing back out but it comes out pretty easy since its just rubber. I know other people have also used it but maybe someone else can chime in with what works for them.

This is a known issue and there is a porsche service bulletin for a headlight bracket replacement that
I have posted some time ago.
Please do a search and you will find it. You can get the part (cheap) from the dealer

What does a headlight bracket have to do with the cabriolet interior light falling out?

But good point. Do a search on interior light. I did and I came up with this page.

Steve:

Thanks for posting the search on the droopy interior light. I'm on my way to the auto parts store to buy some Permatex Black Silicone Adhesive Sealant number 16B (I wish you could have been a little more specific HAHAHA)!!

Thanks for the help!

I also used a black silicone seal to fix my light. It's 3 years later and no problems.

Man i'm glad you posted that note i thought i was the only one with that issue. the thing pops out when i slam my door (which is necessary to get the window to push under the upper window seal)..

so funny what people will put up with in an 80K automobile

i would never have guess that people would caulk that thing. i thought i must me missing some bracket or something that it clips into as it has these little spring loaded type pins on either side that look like they clip into nothing but leather...

very lame design.. i think i could have done better.

Tom what is that car in your avator? i like the front end. i'm thinking of switching my bumper/grill as soon as i recover from replacing my top for being dumb enough to open it in 30 degree weather.

What I did was this: take the light out and you will notice the two brass points pushed out by the metal retainer. One is actually longer than the other for the purpose of getting between the plastic on one side. I replaced the short pin on the one in the car with a long pin from an old light and presto-the pin now keeps the light in place because it is longer and does not slip down.

I flipped mine around so the brass pins are no longer in the same worn out location of the bracket and it has held fine there.
