Default belts and sensors

seasons greetings all,

my beautiful and lovelly 993 decided to eat one of it's belts last night because it wasn't satified munching the belt tension sensor. Belt tension sensor is $167 installed ($100 for the part). Need the middle belt (altenator if i'm not mistaken) and potentially the belt closest to the motor (not sure off hand which one this is).

question #1) can i a rookie mechanic with some mechanical skills replace these belts? i know i can do the sensor but not sure about the belt. keep in mind i've torn apart my motorcycle several times, put it back together and only had a handful of extra bolts.

question #2) a. where do i get the belts, b. are there any belts better than others?

question #3) do any of you live the houston metropolitan area and would like to give me a hand.

muchas gracias senors e feliz navidad

ciao

Here is some (required ) reading for the belt DIY .
Do both belts - and check the pulley halves for any damage/deformation.
This is also an opportunity to install the RS pulley hub and switch to a single belt drive for both fan and alt .... much in the archives.

993.106.035.00 (belt sensor) is exactly $56 tax included. two minutes MAXIMUM to change

the bassard wants $167 ????????????

purchase the belts from the dealer (do a search for part numbers on the 993 forum.)
please try to mention model, year, of your 993 because there exist different pulleys, thus different belts.
you have three bolts and one nut to remove to change the belts.
purchase the big central nut and bolts new from the dealer
900.034.013.02 ------$1.5 nut
900.119.026.02 x 3---$0.5 hex bolts
and do it yourself

Porsche has an electronic parts catalogue called PET. (Porsche Elektronic TeilKatalog)
Some have it on their PC's, and I happen to have it as well.
This is where the prices come from. This is what the dealers use.
So every dealer prices as he wishes but prices should turn around msrp.

It decreases the amount of belts, and may potentially free up around 2hp.

The 12pt are also called 'triple square' and 'XZN' wrenches: places like CarQuest & NAPA usually have them in stock, often on a card of 4 sizes for ~$20. ( I looked them up on ebay, and bought a socket set of various sizes)
This is one shaft that should be carefully counterheld when the nut is loosened - for it's a nasty $$$ to fix.

okay everyone, it is now official ... you are the coolest people in the world!!!

picked up the 12 point wrench set from o'reilly (not the best quality but the best i could find) and proceeded to dismantle my pulleys when all the sudden the 12 point 10 mm wrench dropped and as all of you know things don't drop through porsche engine compartments like gm or ford, so, i proceed to try and fish the damn thing out for the next 30 minutes (frankly, i haven't prayed this hard for god's intervention since i thought my girlfriend was pregnant 15 years ago). eventually fished the thing out and made one very important sticky note to self ... under no circumstance should i drop ANYTHING in the engine compartment. changed the belts out and it runs like a champ ... thanks to everyone for all your help. hope you all had a merry christmas and wish you a happy new year.
