Default Shift **** options -help?

Searched here and 996 forum with no luck.

I am looking to match the red stitching accent on the 996 wheel I just installed.

Is there a black (no CF or aluminum) 996 shift **** available anywhere? I could then have a black boot restitched with red thread.

Or, does anyone have a source on "custom" leather work that can handle the 993 shifter?

My dream would be a black shift **** (996-style), leather matching the wheel (with red stitching) and a matching (yes, red stitching) e-brake handle.

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

On a related note, the leather on the 996 wheel and airbag is a different texture and a bit of a different black. Anyone know what to reference when looking for this?

i've got a black (used 26K miles) leather shift **** from my 993 CAB. Don;t think it fits on the 996. Would fit I guess on your 95 993.

I just switched to the aluminum/.

Ahhhhh ... see that SW's got you falling down the 'ol red accent slope too Mark. Do you have the wheel installed yet?

BTW ... I like your idea here.

Agla does leather work like shift boots and wheel recovers. I spoke with him in the past about a steering wheel cover with deviating stitching and he said that he could do it.

Agla http://www.aglausa.com/

I bought a simple shifter boot for an acura from him and that was fine. A simple piece, but it worked very well.

Might be worth talking to..

Paul Champagne ( fellow Rennlister) does some of the best leather I've seen: he posts as Champagne, and has a web site here .

Yep Scott.. I put it on yesterday. Yowza. I like the black/red concept. There is just a little stitching on the wheel but now I gotta have a matching shift ****/boot and e-brake handle.

Have you ever posted pics of your interior? I'd love to see them...

Pete and Garth, thanks for the leads! I didn't know AGLA did any custom stuff.
That gives me somewhere to start. Much appreciated.

I just went through a three-month nightmare with AGLA. I am not yet ready to spend the hour necessary to thoroughly document the matter, but I would caution anyone interested in dealing with this outfit.

If I had used some common sense and searched the archives before, I would have walked away. And allowed my 11-month-old to recover my steering wheel. There is a strong chance that the results would have been better.

I've done a little leather rehab , which is passable - but if I needed something really nice, I would talk to whats-his-name

Andreas, Thanks for the heads up. My experience was fine, but, it was a simple piece.

I don't believe there is such a thing as an all-leather 996 shift ****. Both of the original equipment ***** of which I'm aware have some some aluminum (silver plastic probably) on them.

Thanks again for the tips... and the heads up on AGLA Andreas.

Re. the 996 ****, I am not looking for an all leather, just all black. Porsche appears to have discontinued the black/black part...

Slightly off-topic. I've got a gray all leather shifter in my 993. The leather top with the shift diagram has worn off. Does anyone know if I can press a replacement shifter cap in there, or does the whole leather thing have to be unstitched?

Thanks.

I've never tried but I understand that the shift diagram is a platic disc that can be pried out and a new one pressed in.

I just ordered a cast metal insert from a British place on eBay last week. I'll let you guys know how it works out... if I ever get it. I haven't heard from them since I got automated emails at the close of the auction.
