I'd use scotch tape and saran wrap to retain that factory look

I actually just replaced mine with Invinca Shield clear guards. I think my old ones were original and although I tried to pull them off carefully they came off in lots of little pieces and left 90% of the adhesive behind. Cold or warmed with a hair dryer made no difference in ease of removal (actually ease is not even remotely the right word for that job). It took about an hour a side to remove the old guard and another hour each to clean it up with adhesive remover. I can see why a body guy would avoid this job. After all the adhesive was cleaned up I carefully clayed and washed the area and applied the new quards. It was easy and they came out perfect. I found that warming the car and the guard itself (before pulling it off the backing paper) with a hair dryer before application really helped. I looked at the new guard versus a piece of the old and the thickness looked and felt the same.

Oh yeah, the guards do really work because I was sure I'd uncover at least a couple of divots where the clear guard was badly nicked but the paint underneath was perfect. Well worth replacing IMHO.

I just had mine replaced for $100 parts and labor at EuroPro in Germantown Md. A worthy investment - they did it in 35 minutes! I recommend them highly.

I have picked them up on ebay as well as Invinca Shield.
There is a set offered in GB.
