Do you think that you guys could give me some advice on anything that I can do to help with wind noise on my 993 Cab. Basically I have had the car for 8 months and both windows are very noisy at the back edge. The glass seems to slip under the rubber ridge as I have read on the forum, but it is extremely noisy above 80mph. Is it worth replacing the seals or should I get the windows adjusted?
Many thanks.
If the wind is coming from the rear vertical edge--where it meets the convertible top--you can adjust that seal member to move it more outboard to form a tighter seal with the window.
To do this, you need to gently lift the inboard side of the seal member. When you do, you'll see three screws that fasten the seal member to the convertible top frame. Loosen them and slide the seal member outboard along the cam slots. Retighten and test.
My driver's side made some noise, which was easily remedied as described above.
i had the top down yesterday it got cold for CA (30 or so) last night i drove into the office this AM in the cold and put the top up after I got to the office... the back window split from left to right almost all the way across.
I believe there is a temperature listed in the manual below at which you aren’t suppose to put the top down. Can’t recall the number offhand.
fwiw, you might be able to get a rear window stitched in- instead of glued- like they are on aftermarket tops. when i got my top replaced, the upholstery shop told me that the aftermarket plastic is better than oem and carry a longer warranty. besides, oem rear windows aren't cheap.
if it's a stitched aftermarket top you can get a new window. stock oem: no. it is heat bonded & will be a mess & will leak... unless you know some total top guru that's better than levon in socal.
the top should not be operated when it's in the 40's is what i've heard & read... i stick to it. even if the top is down, i will wait to put it up until the next (warm) morning etc...
BTW thansk for the sympathy posts. I never even thought about the cold or bothered to read about the top in the manual... i take that back... as i was pushing the button and heard the crack behind me the association was instant... i was always pretty good at science... apparently my comon sense is an area for self improvement.
f* f* f* - i can't wait to see how I handle this. In some sick sick sick way i am looking forward to figuring the best way out of this jam... definitely not looking forward to using my checkbook...
at $1K that was the new steering wheel i was thinking about
at $2K that was the new rubber or maybe the wheels
at $3K that was a set of the GT3 seats
The person i feel the most sad for is my wife... she'll never know what xmass might have been like now that her gift is going into my new top :-) hope she gets me something good.
Thankyou for your help, I'll adjust this seal as you have suggested. Would be really nice to reduce this wind noise!! Mindyou it does stop me speeding.
