Default Muffler ByPass pipes

Guys,

after reading all the goos feedback on the muffler bypass pipes, 1 1/2 - 2 inches....I would like to give it a shot.

Does anyone know someone in Montreal or not too far that can do this mod for me?

TIA
sam

FYI, I think you mean cat bypass pipes; there's no such thing as muffler bypass pipes for our cars.

I think he's referring to the LPMs. I did them not long ago. Great choice. I just walked in from a run out to clean out the carbon and man do they ever sound great!

Or are you talking about the LPMM?

If so, you can order the stainless pipe via Burns Stainless... you need about 2' of 2" pipe. A competent welder or maybe a muffler shop can do it... choose carefully.

Yes, that is it. Just the crossover pipe.
I've heard it and it does sound good!

I got mine done down-and-dirty for $50. Handed the mufflers to a muffler shop where they simply used a cutting torch to open up the holes at the appropriate locations in the inlet and outlet pipes. They then cut and shaped the ends of a piece of some sort of inexpensive aluminized 2" exhaust pipe that isn't supposed to rust, then welded it into place. It wasn't overly pretty, but it did look OK. Hey, it's stuffed up under the fender and you're going to get marked down at a full councours for it anyway, so who really cares if it's perfection?

If I were to do it again, I'd make make sure the shop more fully cuts the holes in the inlet and outlet pipes. Mine are about 2/3 open and I don't get much "burble" at idle and when decelerating. Also, make sure the shop shapes the ends of the cross-over pipes. Another member showed his to me and the x-over pipes were just straight-cut with alot of welding material to fill in. Looked kinda crude and nasty.

guys,

I am ready to do it. Is this the best pipe to order:

" from Burns Stainless, it was $11/ft (pn ST-200-16-304), 2" diameter. I had it in 2 days, ordered 2 feet per other posts. Here is the link http://www.burnsstainless.com/304tu...traight304.html

quoted from pstraub...."thanks for the tip".

thanks,
sam

sorry for the multiple threads...I found a local guy: 2 inch diameter, 304 SS, 0.65 wall thickness.
Is that the one? He threw me off with the thickness part.

$9.40/foot CAD....

TIA

yes but I think you meant .065, not .65
16ga = .065 thickness
http://www.burnsstainless.com/304tub...raight304.html

.65 would be some REALLY thick pipe!

Guys,

why do I find all these simple mods so complex. I spoke to Ron at campbells porsche garage. He really does know his porsches, but I believe is more a 996 specialist, being that he owns a GT2.

I mentioned the muffler bypass to him, and he said it will be way too loud. He sound I wont even be allowed to do any events at Mt. Tremblant. He also mentioned that if u get approved at Limerock, u will be approved anywhere........anyone with the LPMM have any stories at limerock?

should I scale dow to 1 1/2" instead of 2"? will this effect the extra performance?

thanks,
sam
