Default Fuse Box_ Weird wire???

In my "96 C4S fuse box, relay 24, which purports to be the horn relay, has a jumper wire coming from the side of its case which goes under the relay mounting board and terminates who knows where. I have not seen this wire on similar models. There is a label on the wire imprinted with "996 615 401 00 0/0 Porsche" the number 1143 is inked in a European hand. This leads me to believe that the jumper is "official" but what is it for? The 996 prefix in the number would indicate that it is a 996 mod.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks

rb

Just checked my fuse box... no funny wires running out of the side of any of the relays. My car is a '96 C2, but I have a hard time believing that makes any difference. If the factory wanted to tap into the relay they would've done it on the bottom side of the box.

I think someone has done some midnight engineering on your electrics.

Yeah, that's not going to be standard issue. Porsche does all its crazy rat's nest wiring where we can't see it, not in broad daylight.

Pull it off and see if the horn works or if anything else stops working.
It could be from an aftermarket alarm or the turn on wire for an amp. Chris

Thanks for the info. I'll remove the relay and see what happens. also pick up a "regular" relay, sans
wire emerging from side of case and check that out as well.

There is a similar cobbled up relay cooked up by the Porsche dealership when my car was admitted to Canada - I'd have to confirm which relay, but it energizes the running lights full time to become legal 'daytime running lights'.
