My speeding experiences with my 95 C4

102 in a 65-let go 3.5 years ago on I 15
62 in a 45- let go 3 weeks ago in SLC
46 in a 35-ticket--traffic school for 1.5hrs, ticket erased. About 3 years ago.

All others:

67 in a 55 when I was 17----my one and only true speeding ticket.

Black cars are less likely to get pulled over than all others. Thats because they are so fast that the man can get the radar on us!!!

So, when you are on the stand, under oath, and are asked what speed you were traveling....what do you plan to say?

Yep, the man CAN get the radar on black cars all day long, they received the wimpy motors. Radar doesn't even see white cars!

Guys, seriously, the point of the lawyer is to negotiate the charges down- if you have to 'go to trial' on something like this, you will lose. The lawyer, doing his/her job right, will never have to 'prove' anything. As to the cost, dunno what the going rate is in Va., but a pro forma appearance in NY is usually 500 dollars. Far less than the additional insurance cost, time spent in driver rehab school and/or jail. But, who knows? You might get lucky.

If you must speed, go West. Go white.

Lucky that you were under 100!!! In Virginia if you're caught going over 100 they take your car permanently... Virginia is tough... 20mph over the speed limit it wreckless driving and they can put you in jail...

I agree with Billhart. I did represent myself once and came out ok. (Adjudication whitheld, no points, no school, just a fine) but I was lucky. I also took it eventhough the cop was wrong and I thought I could prove it, but that's another story.
However, my beloved wife has been caught her fair share of time and we hired a lawyer each time to get it either negotiated down to no point and a fine or thrown out (we were lucky, attorney knew the judge).
Whatever you decide, fight it. And BTW, often you are forced to turn off ALL phones and such. If you are using one in the court room, some jugdes get REALLY po'd about it.
Best of luck
Ron

I would probably give a lawyer a shot based on being charged with wreckless driving. I overlooked it being a "wreckless driving" offense. Reckless driving is a class one misdemeanor and falls in the same ranks of a DUI, if Im not mistaken.

Depending on your past driving history, you may get a break.

In 1993 the first day I got my Ruf I got a 168 in a 55. $400 in Detroit.
No tickets since. My best advice hire a traffic lawyer with a good winning streak.
$100-150 no points and call it a day. Next, Get an Escort 8500 it's woth it's weight in gold. Chris

I've had two this year, both out of state. Last one was in Arkansas in November doing 82 in a 55. I've been trying to pay the ticket for two weeks but they won't give me an amount for the fine. Evidently I am in the computer system but no ticket is showing up. The lovely lady on the phone says she will give the officer a note and he will have to send us a letter. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one gets lost in the highly efficient Arkansas paper trail. But at this point I have accepted that paying speeding tickets is the price of admission if you are going to drive at 80+ regularly in a Porsche without a V1. So V1 now on order. Good luck with this one. VA is tough.

My last speeding ticket was in Tennessee. It was 1977 and 30 over. Was instructed by the state officer to send $5 to a county judge and nothing would appear on my out-of-state record. They were honest and kept their word. :-)

Quick suggestion, I would not hesitate sending a letter registered mail stating your current mailing address, no speeding amount details, and just a date when you were pulled over, and state you have not received any correspondence from the court, county, or police department.

just CYA.... cover your ***.

Thanks for the suggestions so far..... has anyone received a ticket for 20mph over the limit and gotten out without a lawyer?

(I am going to contact an attorney for sure...I was just curious about experiences of others)

ps: anyone have specific attorney recommendations for Northern Virginia? I have a listing, I was just looking for some personal experience, thanks!
